Exactly that. DS has had a bad cold this week which resulted in a cough so had a covid test and it was negative.

Yesterday I woke up with a sore throat. Nothing terrible but annoying and tonsils red and swollen.

Last night I noticed my tea tasted a bit bland so panicked about covid.

I can smell fine but my taste is reduced. Has anyone else experienced this? Very bizarre as it’s usually the lack of smell which affects taste!

I can taste it’s just somewhat reduced! Can smell fine.

Any ideas?

Could be Covid, could be something else. You need to get a test.

Allaboutthatbass · 18/12/2020 08:21

Taste is part smell. A cold can do this, but get a test.

LastChristmas19 · 18/12/2020 08:24

I intend too. It’s just bizarre that I can smell fine!

I'm just recovering from COVID-19 - altered taste for 2-3 days like a normal viral illness (think sucking on a mouthful of old pennies) followed by a total loss of smell. Like total - can't smell a thing. Very weird.

whereisthejoy · 18/12/2020 09:30

I never lost my taste, only my sense of smell! Hated it. Came back though although about 80-90% of before.

TheSpottedZebra · 18/12/2020 09:37

I have a covid test arriving today. I didn't think my symptoms were covidy, but the zoe app told me to take a test so i am!

I've not lost my sense of smell, but my taste is altered, but only to the point that a meal that is normally tasty, was very very bland. I've also had headache, dodgy stomach and feeling just a bit shit. We shall see!

LastChristmas19 · 18/12/2020 13:50

Very similar symptoms here @TheSpottedZebra. I have a sore throat too. Also an upset stomach! I don’t feel ill though which is good!

Are you getting a test, Last ? Mine has JUST arrived at the door so I'll get it done 1st thing tomorrow and sent off.

One symptom I've had that is odd is I've been a bit burpy ! I literally never burp but last couple of days, I have (a bit). Wierd.

LastChristmas19 · 18/12/2020 17:05

Yep all done this morning - well hopefully I’ve done it right. Throat bit wasn’t easy as I have a bad jaw and can’t keep my mouth open that wide!

Sounds like my covid @TheSpottedZebra - was a mild case and fully recovered now. Hope you're okay. Do you have any idea where it came from?

TheSpottedZebra · 19/12/2020 20:21

You're very kind, whereisthejoy ! I'm glad you're recovered now.
Symptoms are very mild and could easily not be covid. But I have no idea where I'd have picked ANYTHING up from! Have hardly been out, WFH and kids at home too (young). So odd.

TheSpottedZebra · 19/12/2020 20:22

Oh, but i do live in an area that has really high infection rates, unfortunately.

MissSmiley · 19/12/2020 20:24

@LastChristmas19 interesting, I lost my smell completely but not my taste, but only on about day 6, it came back completely after a few days, first symptoms were slight temperature, feeling dizzy and vomiting once, all quite bizarre

ShivD · 19/12/2020 20:24

I got a test for these symptoms earlier in the week and the result was negative. Hopefully you will be too 🤞🏻

LastChristmas19 · 20/12/2020 13:58

Thanks all. I tested negative. I can only assume my bad throat had affected my taste buds as I could smell fine. Things are still tasting off but can smell fine. Felt pretty good generally. Maybe a little under the weather and tired but I was doing housework, decorating etc with no problems.

Good that you've tested negative, Last -hope you're feeling back to normal soon and that you can feel confident that you're not (currently!) going to infect anyone else over Xmas!

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 20/12/2020 14:51

Hooray for the negative test. Hope you are feeling better soon.

whereisthejoy · 22/12/2020 23:02

Good news op!

@TheSpottedZebra have your results come in? How are you doing?

TheSpottedZebra · 22/12/2020 23:32

Last night, positive! Thank you so much for asking!
Am luckily looking like a very mild case and already feeling better than I did a couple of days ago.
