I've tested positive for Covid! I'm gutted, but luckily I'm ok! I have been so careful but I teach in a primary school and the last few weeks cases have been rising however careful we are! Obviously that doesn't fit the government rhetoric of it not spreading in schools, but it does!
Be careful out there folks!

Hope you feel better ASAP. Flowers

AHippoNamedBooBooButt · 15/12/2020 13:29

Oh no, I hope you feel ok and get over it soon.
I’ve said to dd today that I will amazed if we get through this week without one of us coming down with it as there are 4 of us self isolating after being in close contact with positive cases at schools (dd has had half her sixth form go down including close friend, ds1 has a case in his class, ds3 had his reception teacher test positive, and at the end of last week 1/5th of my department tested positive).

yeOldeTrout · 15/12/2020 13:31

Hope it passes relatively mildly. x

HairyFloppins · 15/12/2020 13:31

Get well soon OP.

I have gone from knowing no-one with the virus to hearing loads of people have got it including our house.

Cupcakegirl13 · 15/12/2020 13:35

How on earth can you be sure you caught it at work ?

Mammyloveswine · 15/12/2020 13:36

I'm a primary school teacher too and lots of cases at my school... it's scary!

Currently isolating due to one of my pupils testing positive..I teach eyfs so cannot distance from the pupils. Hope you feel well soon! Take care Thanks

OppsUpsSide · 15/12/2020 13:38

hedgehogger1 · 15/12/2020 13:40

hedgehogger1 · 15/12/2020 13:41

Hope you're ok Op. just had a large portion of my year tens sent home and my Dd is isolating after a dozen cases in her bubble

Threelionsandalioness · 15/12/2020 13:44

Hope it is only mild for you op x

BigcatLittlecat · 15/12/2020 13:46

#cupcakegirl13 I can't be sure it's work but I'm not the only case in school. Also symptoms started on sunday and the only place I had been in the last 9 days was school! I can't be sure but it's highly probable!
I'm luckily feeling fine just a bit tired!

How come you got a test, did they do them at your school?
BigcatLittlecat · 15/12/2020 14:08

Sorry OP when you said you were just tired, I thought you meant you had no symptoms.

humtar · 15/12/2020 14:20

OP - I hope you're feeling ok, at least you'll be out of isolation for Christmas.
My DS, who works in a primary school in London has tested positive. 5 year groups are now isolating, one class has 10+ cases. Quite a few staff have cases. They are not allowed to use staff rooms or meet in other classrooms.
Next door neighbours children returned yesterday to their London primary school after isolating - both children's year groups had cases. They're planning on going to their grandparents for Xmas during the relaxation period

BlackeyedSusan · 15/12/2020 14:26

can't possibly have caught it at work... don't you know Covid is not allowed past the school doors! Hmm No teacher has ever caught it at work, it is always from some random trip to the supermarket ,that person they passed in the street four weeks ago, or not sterilising their post... (what with being lazy teachers and all that) Teachers are always 2m away from any pupil or other person in school, the area is well ventilated and all pupils wear masks correctly at all times.

occassionally they may have caught it from their own school children, who of course did not catch it in school, unless it was from teachers socialising in the staffrooms/toilets/pub/restaurant which are not at all closed. children can not pass on covid in any circumstances, except if their parents are teachers, and only if they are teachers.

we also have to wonder why op is not doing some planning or marking as we know that teachers are not allowed to do anything but these things yet simultaneouly only work from 9 to 3 and have all those long really well paid holidays. Oh and while we are at it why don't you do inset days in the holidays?

Has that covered it all? Xmas Grin

Get well soon. Hope you are not too unwell with it.

MrsBlobby43 · 15/12/2020 14:26

Exactly the same as me. Got symptom on Sunday and hadn't been anywhere apart from school in the days leading up to it. Hope you feel better soon x

AppleKatie · 15/12/2020 14:43

@BlackeyedSusan you forgot all the Christmas gifts and the gold plated pension.

Flowers op, hope it stays mild and just think how useful the antibodies will be to you next term...

MoirasRoses · 15/12/2020 14:51

I hate the government as much as the next person but I do get annoyed with these comments if ‘they think it doesn’t spread in school’. Of course it does & of course they know it does. The difficulty is that they cannot afford to not educate children. Nor can parents work & home educate. They have to keep schools open. There is no other choice. It’s really unfortunate for teachers but in my eyes you fall into the same category as doctors & nurses & supermarket staff who have had no choice but to continue working.. the support has been shocking but no-one thinks it isn’t spreading in schools 😩

Petitmum · 15/12/2020 14:55

I know a lot of teachers and nurses..................one nurse has tested positive, 6 teachers!!!

ajandjjmum · 15/12/2020 14:58

DD has just been confirmed positive too OP.

She was at home for both lockdowns (Midlands) but lives in London normally - and spent 4 months inbetween largely working from the office.

Her plan was to travel back today, but to be sure she didn't bring Covid home to our 'oldies', she got a test on Sunday although she had no symptoms. She developed a slight headache and sore throat on Sunday afternoon/Monday and positive confirmed at 3.15am today!

I honestly thought she was joking, because she's been so careful.

Hope that you recover quickly OP.

AppleKatie · 15/12/2020 16:16

@MoirasRoses you’ve misunderstood. It’s not a black and white issue. It’s not ‘this shit show’ and ‘schools shut and the worse shit show’. There a huge largely untapped middle ground in the equation.
