What is London Euston/Waterloo like right now - brother travelling home and I'm worried

My brother is travelling home from rural Scotland on a sleep train down to Euston, then walking from Euston to Waterloo on Thursday morning. He;s then catching a 9am train back to Winchester. He's taking all sensible precautions and has to come home to my mum's as he has no where else to go. We are in a support bubble with my mum who is currently living alone - healthy and in her 60's. We;ve had a baby 4 weeks ago. I'm worried about the risk of exposure but have no idea what London is like at the moment - is it busy in Waterloo like usual? Will it be less busy at this time of day? Ultimately we need to decide if we are having Christmas together or separately. Looking to find out more from people who have been to Euston and Waterloo recently. Thanks.

I went on Sunday and it was very quiet at Euston, mind you it was 9.30 on a Sunday morning.

Euston and Waterloo are both incredibly quiet. Ghost towns.

Grooticle · 15/12/2020 11:54

Both very quiet. Everybody is wearing masks. The stations are well ventilated. There is sanitiser everywhere.

Central London is empty right now. I'm working in the theatre district today and it's a ghost town.

I live in Central London and both stations are very quiet at the moment. If he can get the bus, the number 68 at Euston Station goes to Waterloo.

FindHungrySamurai · 15/12/2020 12:12

Walking briskly through a station should be fine. They’re technically indoors but they’re very well ventilated, and with so few commuters at the moment they’re not crowded. I’ve been to Waterloo to get to St Thomas’s and it wasn’t empty but it certainly wasn’t so crowded that you couldn’t keep your distance.

AllAboutHallowsEve · 15/12/2020 12:13

Bus 168 also goes to Waterloo (it will say Old Kent Road, Tesco on the bus). He can download Citymapper app to find the bus stops. He would need Oyster card or use contactless on debit card for bus.

AllAboutHallowsEve · 15/12/2020 12:14

Buses are also much quieter now.

RedRosie · 15/12/2020 12:28

Both stations v quiet. I travel into and out of Waterloo most days in the rush hour. Very quiet. I was at Euston last week. Also quiet.

I'd walk as well, rather than getting the bus. Especially between two long journeys.

NotStayingIn · 15/12/2020 12:46

Agree, it's been really quiet.

Does he have much luggage? It's a nice walk going from Euston to Waterloo, but obviously, if you have a large suitcase or bag to lug around with you the 40 min or so might feel much longer.

Esthermoo01 · 15/12/2020 12:53

Thank you everyone for your replies I feel much better about it knowing the stations aren't too busy. He'll be walking as he only has a back pack and it was only really being in the stations that felt risky. He's going to be there between 9-10am going out of Lobdo so hopefully the train will also not be too busy. Thanks everyone x

I’ve not been to Waterloo but Euston is very quiet.

A walk sounds lovely but a pain with luggage. Of course there is a bus and they’ve been very quiet too. If he gets the bus remind him it’s okay and sensible to open any windows that have been shut. Personally I’d suggest a black cab if money isn’t an issue. They’ve got screens between the driver and the passengers.

I was on the tube last week, very quiet (was off - peak about noon)

London is dead. Apart from shoppers. As masks work - really?- why on earth are you panicking about a miniscule risk? Unbelievable!!!! What a load of absolute scare mongering crap
