Anyone’s child test positive after a single temp spike?

My son 6yo woke complaining of headache this morning. Thought nothing of it and gave him breakfast and a drink. We were all about to leave the house for school/work and he said again his head was really hurting this time. I thought best just check his temp and low and behold it was high (37.8). He’s absolutely full of beans and been fine and not ill in the slightest. He went for a test at 8.30am so waiting on results. Just wondering what the chances are of this being Covid?? I know symptoms vary in kids, it’s just so odd to have a temp and headache but yet be full of life.

I’m also quite concerned because we’ve at my ECV mums Friday, Saturday and Sunday. We are in an extended household (Wales) so no SD happened we were inside there house. Confused

I don't have a result yet but similar here. Last night complaining he was cold. After a bit I checked temp and it was 38.7. Then 39.1. He's fine this morning but tested at 9am so wait for results with you!

My 9 year olds test has came back positive today he's fine no temp no cough nothing!
Only tested him as iv tested positive over the weekend.

Porcupineinwaiting · 14/12/2020 12:54

Yes my nephew. Temperature one evening, gone by next day, just felt a bit tired for a day or two. But positive.

Cyclingwidow15 · 14/12/2020 13:23

This is what I feared Shock

He’s absolutely fine and I’m not so worried about him or us getting it. It’s just the worry for my poor mum, really hoping for a negative so we can stop worrying.

No! My 5 yo has had two covid tests after spike in temperature and both have been negative. She didn't have any other symptoms, but we still had to get her tested.

mumof1879 · 14/12/2020 13:42

My son woke with a headache, felt warm but no temperature; sinus congestion and had achey joint and tested positive.

Cyclingwidow15 · 14/12/2020 14:50

I’ve checked his temp twice again this afternoon and it’s still high so he’s definitely brewing something. He’s fine otherwise though. Doubt he’s going back to school tomorrow even if the result is negative if we can’t get his temp down.

DS had a fever and was lethargic but his covid test was negative. No other symptoms, very short lived and he was fine the next day.

NeverSurrender · 14/12/2020 15:18

I posted something very similar yesterday! Dd 5 bad head, tummy ache and nausea and a temp in the high 30s for brief amounts of time but otherwise ok! Waiting for results now.. 🤞

DulcetMoans · 15/12/2020 09:17

Results back for us. He was negative.

I on the other hand... Positive! Fully shocked.

NameChange30 · 15/12/2020 09:20

@DulcetMoans
Did you have any symptoms?

UtterlyUnimaginativeUsername · 15/12/2020 09:22

DS had a raised temperature and a headache the last couple of days. He's being tested today.

Cyclingwidow15 · 15/12/2020 09:39

I’m still waiting for the results here. DulcetMoans hope you are okay.

Another one with a child being tested today. He had a high temperature and was boiling hot in the night and he is quite little, so we are having him tested. He seems fine though apart from the temperature.

harrietm1987 · 15/12/2020 09:55

DS (2) had a fever and no other symptoms. Temp was high (39.5) for 24 hours and only just controlled with calpol. Totally recovered next day and covid test was negative. No idea what it was as we haven’t been anywhere/in contact with anyone.

Covidwoes · 15/12/2020 11:58

@harrietm1987 exactly the same here with my 2 year old. She tested negative too, despite me and her dad having it at the time! Baffling!

DH and I didn’t bother getting tested as we have no symptoms and thought we’d see whether DS had it first...now worried that we should have!

Covidisdrivingmecrazy · 15/12/2020 12:18

Please bear in mind that the tests have up to 30% false negative rate. This really isn't getting enough emphasis. It's hard to get a good swab, The test itself isn't perfect.

NameChange30 · 15/12/2020 12:25

Good point covid. DH did the swab on DS, he said it was really hard to do as DS hated it, and he's not convinced it was a good enough swab to get a reliable result.

My son had headache and temp and tested positive. Cough came later.

LePimpernelScarlette · 15/12/2020 12:33

My son had a headache and the slightest temp - was positive, I had a streaming cold and cough felt dreadful and still feel drained - negative.

sohypnotic · 15/12/2020 12:39

My DD (3) has had 3 temperature spikes of over 38 in the last 6 weeks. They seem to be happening roughly 2 weeks apart, so she has been tested 3 times and has been negative each time. She has had other random symptoms on and off, runny nose, slight cough, aches etc, which seem to last a few days then disappear. It's very frustrating!

Layladylay234 · 15/12/2020 12:40

I'll be really interested to know your results OP. On the first day of lockdown in March,my 10 year old started with a mild cough and that EXACT temp of 37.8. Couldn't get him tested at that time so we just presumed that was it. He was a bit lethargic the next day but find my the afternoon. And the cough was gone after a few days. I was in my third trimester at the time and neither myself or my partner developed symptoms. I'd love to know if that was Covid but I don't suppose we ever will now

Alwaysandforeverhere · 15/12/2020 13:21

My youngest had a temp and we got got her tested. She was negative.

MistletoeandGin · 15/12/2020 13:24

Mine both had temps, headache and loss of appetite. Both tested negative.
