How long is the self isolation period as contact of COVID in other countries?

Just out of interest, really.

Now that the UK has reduced the self isolation from 14 days to 10 days, I was wondering what other countries do and how long people have to self isolate for as a contact in other places around the world?

would like to know this as I think british system is one of the toughest not withstanding the recent change. I think other countries have different definitions of close contacts though. in France I believe it's only people you live with.

I would like to know this as I always thought 14 days sounded like a really long time, we’ve just had to do 2 isolations back to back (so 4 weeks) now isolation finished yesterday I got an email from my daughters school saying her class needs to isolate so that would be 6 weeks of isolation in one go! Luckily she hasn’t been in school so that wouldn’t apply to her

As op says, France is really short at 7 days. Officially it was because they reckoned higher compliance over a lower period was better than vice versa.

As i understand it though, there is no sending home of the whole class in France. Siblings only?

@Frazzled2207

Siblings would be told isolate as someone who lives under the same roof as a positive case.

The gouv takes the attitude that if the children / teachers are all wearing masks (and they are required to wear them at all times) then none are contact case to each other. I think there need to be at least 3 positive cases in the same class at the same time before they even consider closing a class, in secondary. School closures are really minimal here.

Fair point. I do feel for the younger kids wearing masks though.

We live in Australia- 14 days.
Family in New Zealand -14 days.

Bit more clarity for Aus: 14 days if you are a close contact of an identified case, even with a negative test result.
If you have confirmed covid and manage at home then 10 days since onset of symptoms, and no symptoms of acute illness for 72 hrs as confirmed by your dr.

I'm part of some Facebook groups related to my job. There are lots of people on there from America. I guess it may vary by state. But all of them don't do isolating. They get a test and if negative, return to work. Whether this is their (wrong) interpretation on how incubation works or the official advice there, I'm not sure.
