What is the point of cleaning your shopping trolley handle

What is the point of spraying and wiping it, after you've touched it to get it from the stand and push it to the point where the spray and wipes are?

You’re supposed to hand sanitise after you’ve cleaned the handle?

Looneytune253 · 13/12/2020 11:38

Because you would then clean or sanitise your hands etc so both are then clean

Lazypuppy · 13/12/2020 11:39

You clean your hand at the same time...

I use hand gel and then wipe my hands over the handle to so both at the same time

rainatnightlove · 13/12/2020 11:40

@Lazypuppy I do that too! Thought I was the only one Grin

SantasBritchesSpelleas · 13/12/2020 11:41

Yes, take trolley to sanitising station and clean handle at the same time you sanitise your hands.

What do you think the point is?

Ah, my local Tesco has the trolley cleaning station away from the hand sanitising station. I sanitise my hand when I leave the car, get a trolley and sanitise again in store. Clearly I'm doing it wrong

And this is why we’re in a mess.

(Not you specifically OP, but the Tesco staff who’ve set it up like that - there are people this hard of thinking all over the place, including those running the country).

Sally872 · 13/12/2020 12:20

My local tesco has sanitiser and wipes/spray for trollies side by side. Sounds like a problem at your local branch.

loutypips · 13/12/2020 12:22

I put gloves on before touching the basket/trolley and sanitise my hands after taking gloves off. I do also have some disinfectant spray in my handbag too.

AurorasGingerbreadHouse · 13/12/2020 12:24

I sanitise before I get the trolley, and at the end when I finish shopping. Unpack shopping when I get home, wash hands thoroughly with soap, and go about my day.

Am I doing it all wrong?

I think your Tesco is doing it wrong.

My local Tesco has the trolley cleaning stuff and the hand sanitiser on the same station, so you can do both at once.

Crumpetycrump · 13/12/2020 12:27

At our Waitrose they sanitise the trolley handle before you get it!

There are many reasons why we're in a mess, but my understanding of the latest scientific studies was that the biggest driver of transmission was droplet/aerosol (from coughs and sneezes) when people are in close contact, whereas surface transmission outside lab conditions was largely unproven / not fully understood.

If your local Tesco offers the self scanning handsets, the staff do seem to give them a clean after every use.

Purpler5 · 13/12/2020 12:48

@scottish83

Yes I agree. I didn’t mean specifically about hard surfaces, and I didn’t even specially mean mess re Coronavirus (I should have meant that clearer).

Basically there are just too many people (by definition : half) of people who are less intelligent than average!

Remmy123 · 13/12/2020 14:03

I've never wiped a trolly and I never sanitise my hands

I'm still well

I don't think it lives on surfaces for long or I've just been lucky
