Have any care home workers had the vaccine yet or been told when they will have it?

We haven't been told yet, hopefully we will hear soon when staff can get the vaccine and when residents will too.

There was a thread yesterday that care home staff had been called to have the vaccine at one of the nominated hospital hubs and residents could start to receive them next week at their care home, but would be given by GP’s.

Our employer issued a link this morning to all frontline care staff for a vaccination slot at the local NHS Trust starting today - really easy process to complete and several colleagues have already had jab one. Its like a little miracle.

I've got to go 65 miles to get my vaccine and we're not allowed to car share. Plus I don't drive so got to get a bus. It doesn't make sense when there bringing it into the care homes for the residents. Why can't they do the staff to at the same time.

Yellowmellow2 · 11/12/2020 18:53

The staff in my mum’s care home have started to be vaccinated. We’re in London, and near one of the hubs.

vodkaredbullgirl · 11/12/2020 18:56

We are waiting to hear what day, they think it may be next week.

Hapixmas · 11/12/2020 18:59

Yes my friend is having it this weekend.

@Vivana definitely share a car, much less risky than the bus.

hettyhooverdoover · 11/12/2020 19:18

We get tested every week but I'm thinking we could share a car if we all wear a mask. At the moment our nearest hospital offering it is a long drive away.

I'm wondering if it may be next week. We have so many workers that don't have transport and the nearest hosp can't even be got to by bus. Plus we are always short staffed as it is. Best case scenario would be to vaccinate staff and residents in the home but that won't work with the Pfizer vaccine.

I work in a dementia care home, the home has invested in a special fridge or freezer so we can have it at the home. Not sure how that will work, the nurses are going to be doing it. The staff and residents, will see what happens.

vodkaredbullgirl · 11/12/2020 19:41

meant the nurses will be doing the residents and staff.

notevenat20 · 11/12/2020 19:42

@vodkaredbullgirl

One that is at -70 or just a normal fridge?

That's amazing! I also work in Dementia, but we do not have nurses, only community nurses so I guess we won't be able to do that.

I know some care home staff in North Yorkshire who had it this week. My sister is nhs ward staff and originally had an appointment for this week but it’s been moved to next week, she’s in Leicestershire.
