Rest of UK to slash self isolation from 14 to 10 days?

Lumene · 11/12/2020 11:23

Story in The Sun today. Wales has already done this. Anyone know if it’s true?

Am currently self-isolating due to NHS App but have only seen anyone outside so would be quite pleased.

I've only heard rumours about it but apparently the announcement is due this afternoon

AcornAutumn · 11/12/2020 12:04

The story is being carried by many outlets but no announcement yet

That said, they do like to tell the media first

BBC have just splashed it too - across the UK.

XmasLlama · 11/12/2020 12:08

It's just been announced as is from Monday

ElephantWhaleRabbit · 11/12/2020 12:13

Is reducing something from 14 to 10 "slashing"?

I’ve seen shops advertising prices being slashed by 10%!
Reindeermayhem · 11/12/2020 13:03

Having had children miss so much time off work, that will be a real help.

RaspberryCoulis · 11/12/2020 13:06

"slash"?

Hardly.

Although "reduce in line with scientific evidence" is too many big words for Sun readers.

leased as it means DS can go back to school on Monday.

Drawmelikeoneofyourfrenchgirls · 11/12/2020 13:11

Does anyone know, does this apply if you are currently isolating? Or only for folk beginning to isolate from Monday onwards? Can I slash our current isolation to 10 days?

cathyandclare · 11/12/2020 13:12

I think this is a sensible plan, hopefully it will improve compliance.

Favouritebauble · 11/12/2020 13:13

@Drawmelikeoneofyourfrenchgirls I would like to know the same as my DD is isolating (again).

According to the BBC article, it also applies to people currently isolating - you can end it early.
anastasiakrupnik · 11/12/2020 13:14

My 10 days was up at pretty much the time the BBC announced it, so I was straight out! - why would I stay in til Tuesday if it is now deemed safe after 10 days? I expect it takes them a while to update the app and notify whoever needs to know.. interesting to see how quick schools will adjust too..

HeadSpin5 · 11/12/2020 13:15

Bbc reporting that the app will take a few days to catch up so if you have done ten days already, then you’re free!

EasterIssland · 11/12/2020 13:23

Is it 10 days then since contact?
My son is isolating cuZ of contact last Friday. He only started isolation on Monday so he’s allowed back on Friday cuz of the 14 days.
However , if reduce to 10 I presume Tuesday ?

Lumene · 11/12/2020 13:58

Great thanks all. Slashing may not have been the right term, I think I have spent too much time watching Ninjago episodes Grin

bbc saying that you can reduce to finish your isolation at 10 days instead of 14. not sure when from.

🤣 I can see how that happens!

NeurotrashWarrior · 11/12/2020 14:23

It'll reduce it to less than that in reality; most people don't find out they need to isolate till day 3-5. I found out on day 6 I think.

Which felt a bit pointless.

hopefulhalf · 11/12/2020 14:43

This is for Christmas isn't it ? Contact today gets you out of isolation on the 21st

EasterIssland · 11/12/2020 14:46

RaspberryCoulis · 11/12/2020 15:51

It's nothing to do with Christmas.

It's because if you're going to show symptoms after an exposure, or even have it and not know you have it, it's usually 4 or 5 days later. If you're going to show symptoms, you are going to have shown those symptoms by 10 days in. The tiny tiny percentage of people who take 2 weeks to show symptoms is so small that when they balance the cost to the economy and children's education against keeping people locked inside for an additional 4 days, they've decided it's not worth it.

Rowgtfc72 · 11/12/2020 16:05

I didnt show symptons till day twelve of isolation. Nearly didnt test as assumed it wasnt covid.
