Getting my 22 month old test - yes or no

It's the middle of the night, he's coughing his lungs out, been awake from it for a while waiting for it to get better. He ended up waking himself up crying lots. He's calmed down, his temp is 37.3 but continue to cough.

Would you get him tested tomorrow?

For peace of mind, I would and it is advisable to test for a cough and you all have to self isolate until you get the results.

Thanks. I need to read the protocol if you can just turn up at a test centre or if you need to be referred etc

Nobody in this house has even had a cold since Feb as it's unlikely for us to catch it due to WFH but he's started going back to the childminders about 8 weeks ago.

Presuming you’re in England if you google it’s one of the first links to get booked in. Small children and babies only need their noses swabbed but you will have to do it. Take a bribery treat for immediately afterwards. No worse than immunisations (and not as painful) imho.

There are still seasonal bugs going round which it’s likely to be but as you’ve said he’s in a childcare setting it would be best to be able to provide them with proof that it isn’t covid or they could refuse to take him for the isolation period.

You book a test through gov.uk, you put in childs details, tick cough as symptoms and test location and times will be offered. You are sent a code by email to take with you for the test.

I tested my 5 month old for similar reasons. It wasn't nice to do the test but he got over it quite soon after.

Easily managed to book a test the same day for us all at a walk in centre. In fact there were loads of slots available.

I'd just get it done, then you will know for sure. We had our results back within 24 hours.
