Does anyone live near the border? Are police waiting there to stop people crossing from England to Scotland? Or can you cross?

@tenlittlecygnets

And police won't suddenly come out to patrol the border before Christmas?!
Why on earth would they? You are allowed to.travel to visit family at Xmas HRH Nichola said so.
tenlittlecygnets · 02/12/2020 17:35

Oh yes, *@Willow2017* - have you been to the Tam O'Shanter Trail in Ayr?

'Weel done, cutty sark!'

No we never managed the whole trail but did do Burns cottage and Alloway Auld Kirk graveyard. Love a graveyard. All those anazing carvings.☠
Nicknacky · 02/12/2020 17:52

Willow2017 I had some of my wedding photos done in the graveyard!

Nobody is actively policing travel restrictions either within Scotland, or along the Scotland/England border.

The regulations are not much more than guidance and a polite request to behave sensibly. The laws are there purely to permit the police to deal with people who are flagrantly and egregiously non-compliant, especially in a hypothetical scenario whereby they are determinedly spreading Covid infection.

Nobody has any intention at all of stopping random commuters, quizzing them on their reasons for travel, and fining them and/or turning them around.

Police Scotland were, for one day at the beginning of lockdown restrictions, stopping commuters using one route in and out of Edinburgh, but this wasn't, regardless of what you might have heard, some nefarious SNP plot to put ordinary people away for disregarding Covid travel restrictions.

We live a couple of miles south of the border, DH has been in work one day a week in Scotland and no police at the border but I did hear that there were police turning people away who were trying to cross the border to do their shopping and telling them to go to their local towns the other side of the border.

Yes after the head of police in England said that they wouldn't be doing that so obviously some pokice have decided to take it upon themselves to do it. People cant afford to get a weekly shop for a family in the smaller shops in villages over the border. Its crazy.
