Would you test without one of the main symptoms?

We all know the symptoms are much broader than the 3 listed, so would you test if you had several other non typical symptoms? For context I’m ill in bed with fatigue, headache, achy muscles, earache and sore throat. I’m not planning to test as I know the criteria but am wondering whether I should?

I would, the fatigue and headache are especially indicative. That doesn't mean it can't be anything else though, but if it is covid then at least you can take precautions to minimise spread.

joystir59 · 30/11/2020 14:28

Yes. I would.

Hugosmugo · 30/11/2020 14:32

I've had a banging headache for the last 3 days in a row (but come the afternoon) and was unusually tired yesterday (had a nap, unlike me) and have woken up with a swollen gland today. I'm actually still in work as I don't have any other symptoms. I wish the criteria was bigger and that tests were quicker / more easily available.

lollipoplollipop20 · 30/11/2020 14:33

Yes I’ve heard in Germany you ring your GP who advises whether you should test or not. That would be a better system IMO - would stop people testing for every sniffle but would also allow fuller range to be considered.

If you used the Zoe app, it would ask you to test. Download the Zoe app, go get a test.

Pollypocket89 · 30/11/2020 14:34

How do you book a home test?

GlassLake · 30/11/2020 14:34

High temperature is a good indicator that you are fighting off virus so I'd get a test if you have a temperature too.

lollipoplollipop20 · 30/11/2020 14:36

@GlassLake I definitely don’t have a temp.

I will download the Zoe app thanks.

Yes I did for my second one. Fatigue and full body aches and a headache. Plus my OH had it. Negative for mine. Either I did I wrong or I have a super fabulous immune system

thenewaveragebear1983 · 30/11/2020 14:46

I would, and certainly for any of the weird lightheaded, woozy, brain fog type symptoms coupled with a headcold, or any unusual gastric symptoms especially in young children.

starrynight19 · 30/11/2020 18:05

I have just tested positive with those symptoms. When you put your results in the nhs test and trace all of those symptoms come up.

lollipoplollipop20 · 30/11/2020 18:36

Oh @starrynight19 sorry to hear that.

I’m feeling much the same but not that bad, able to get out of bed and tidy up etc. Still none of main symptoms. But think it is probably best to order a test.

McRibpain · 30/11/2020 18:38

Yes definitely. There's plenty of capacity now, also mass testing is being rolled out. No need to feel guilty.

starrynight19 · 30/11/2020 18:39

Hopefully it’s negative but so many people are testing positive without the three main symptoms.

Christmasfairy2020 · 30/11/2020 20:40

Keep been told that immsomnia is a symptom. Just been for a test as husband has persistent temp of 39.1 since saturday. He also has started with immsomnia and diarrhoea. Hopefully negative !

Remmy123 · 30/11/2020 20:41

Yes bad to lie to get my mum a test - she was positive

isitnextyearyet1 · 30/11/2020 20:46

I haven't and have similar symptoms but haven't got the fatigue or achy muscles.
If there were mass testing in my area, which I think there is going to be soon then I think I would be more inclined to go for a test.

PTW1234 · 30/11/2020 20:49

I would and have, I know 3 adults who did too and they went on to test positive.

None of the children in my sons school (it’s a small school) had “the” symptoms who then went on to test positive.

In the north (West Yorkshire) it’s very easy to get a test and results are usually back within 18 hours

PTW1234 · 30/11/2020 20:50

Also agreed with mass testing, within the next couple of weeks there will be mass testing in most T3 areas

dingledongle · 30/11/2020 20:55

Get a test, dd had cold symptoms and tested positive Wink

luckylavender · 30/11/2020 21:08

OP - that could never work here. How on earth could you get through to a doctor?
