Are we allowed to use Airbnb or something like that?

I lodge. My landlord has long term plans (since pre Covid) to have a family reunion in a few weeks. I had agreed (pre Covid) that I would stay with friends for the 3-4 days so he could let his parents use my room. As Covid progressed we had talked about it being such a pity, and crossed fingers that it all ended in time etc.

It turns out that plans are still to go ahead with 20-30 family members coming, and 12 staying for the whole duration. We are in tier two. I don't really want to ask anyone to break the rules though I'm sure friends/family would allow me to stay with them if needs must. I'm not looking forward to the expense of airbnb. And this may be all academic, as by mid December we may be in tier one (doubt it...) and so regardless of him breaking the rules, I can stay with friends without breaking the rules.

However, just in case - are we allowed to use Airbnb? I thought that hotels weren't open (though may be wrong there), but wasn't sure about Airbnb or similar.

TLDR: I have to go away for a few days in a couple of weeks - can I use Airbnb?!

How on earth are that many people coming and for 12 to stay for the duration....?

ThroughThinkandThing · 26/11/2020 21:29

As in how is the house big enough, or why do they have so many people coming when it isn't allowed?

Wtf? Have you read the Xmas rules??

ThroughThinkandThing · 27/11/2020 08:20

It's before Christmas, so the Christmas rules don't apply. I have read them.

After lockdown, yes. In lockdown, no. news.airbnb.com/en-uk/airbnb-bookings-in-england-restricted-for-lockdown-period/

But your landlord is insane. What if one of his party gets Covid and has to stay longer in the property? Who will be cleaning it after everyone leaves? Will it be safe for you to return to?

I'm finding it tricky. Looking for a new place to live, which is really not what I want to be doing right now, it's just added stress.

Yes, you can use Airbnb. I stayed in one a couple of weeks ago when I attended a funeral. It was one that was separate to the house so was completely self-contained.

Landlord’s plan sounds crazy and definitely breaking all lockdown/tier/Christmas rules.

We are. We'd booked for the 23-30. I thought we'd only be allowed to stay 23-27 under the new rules (with Xmas bubble) but owner is happy to let us stay til the 30th.

Have to say I don't see what difference the extra 3 days makes, it's the same tier and in the middle of nowhere.
