So sad. I'm glad this is rare, but so sad for her family.

pretty girl. RIP.

What I don't get, when we hear about teens like age 14-15 getting covid bad, they seem to go from receiving positive test to hospitalised in ICU within hours. The progression is freaky. Or did the test take forever to get results, or did they only get tested after being ill for a week?

PamDenick · 25/11/2020 20:29

RIP lovely girl.

BlackeyedSusan · 25/11/2020 20:33

Probably couldn't get a test as usual child symptoms are different to adult symptoms. You are only allowed to book a test for some of the typical adult symptoms.

Poor girl and family. Such an awful thing to happen. So sorry this has happened to you.

wintertravel1980 · 25/11/2020 21:02

It happened in the US, not in the UK so UK testing criteria have got nothing to do with this tragedy.

Baileysforchristmas · 25/11/2020 21:15

It strange how most children in the UK who have died from coronvirus were mainly south Asian or black I wonder why?

“ And though children rarely die from Covid-19, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Hispanic and Black children were more likely than white children to be hospitalized or admitted to an ICU. “

lockdownbreakdown · 25/11/2020 21:20

What a beautiful girl and how utterly heart breaking for her family.

WannaBBetter · 25/11/2020 21:26

Most parents of the children but not all, work in front line facing jobs like nursing and pick it up and transfer from that. Due to invisible social structure as a result of our historical culture, most but not all are in over crowded houses and face poverty...where disease spreads rife.

Baileysforchristmas · 25/11/2020 21:36

Yes could be that but considering all children are in school where it’s spreading, i’m not so sure. Hopefully in the future we might know the answer. Poverty will play a part.

Torvean32 · 26/11/2020 00:17

The mortality rate for those of BAME community is much higher. There was massive social media and local media for ppl from BAME to take part in the vaccination study. When the data was released only 0.3% volunteered.
By no means am I saying that it's deservant of somebody dying. However we need more ppl from BAME communities volunteering so we can see why their mortality is higher, and do something to reduce it.

middleager · 26/11/2020 07:00

This is so sad.
My 14 year old son has Covid, caught at school. We are gaslit into thinking it's not harmful to children, yet he has struggled with this.
What a tragic loss of a young life.

Feministicon · 26/11/2020 10:16

Poor little thing, so awful. One of the first child deaths in America was a 5 year old girl who also happened to be black.

palacegirl77 · 26/11/2020 10:27

Very sad for her family. She had tested positive for covid but we dont know the circumstances of why she died, it sounds like there were other things going on too. RIP.

DixitWinner · 26/11/2020 10:27

I read somewhere that it is to do with vitamin D levels, and that it is easier to get enough vitamin D from sunlight if you have pale skin. I don’t know how true this is though or if it is still just theory. We are all taking high strength Vitamin D every day now.

Quartz2208 · 26/11/2020 10:31

Having read some articles it is a very different presentation of COVID - it could be that having tested positive for COVID they didnt do any further tests to figure out her symptoms and just sent her home - rather than investigate and she worsened.

Iron and blood transfusions isnt a normal treatment for COVID.

I think it definitely needs investigating as I think there is more to this than she simply died of COVID

pizzatoday · 26/11/2020 12:35

RIP. Poor girl xx

Comefromaway · 26/11/2020 12:39

There is increasing evidence that the inability of people from BAME backgrounds to absorb vitamin D from sunlight is having an effect on the severity of their illness.

48% of people in the US are Vit d deficient. Something like 84% of black people are Vitamin D deficient. This wil be get worse over the winter than it was in the summer.

I would urge everyone to start taking a supplement now.

BadTattoosAndSmellLikeBooze · 26/11/2020 12:41

Just utterly heartbreaking. Her poor family. Xx

ah, sorry, there was some story about HH on a gofundme page. Wasn't trying to advertise it!

HelloMellowYellow · 26/11/2020 20:43

With all these articles what tgey tend to leave out is no health issues that they knew of. Very sad for her loved ones and worrying for BAME children.
