Anyone else with family abroad and will be spending Christmas alone?

The recent Christmas announcements make no difference to me as my family (parents and extended family) are not in the U.K. and so I will not be able to see them. Feeling a bit sad as for the first time ever it will just be me and dd for Christmas. It will be ok but I wondered if anyone else is in that situation?

It will just be me, DP and newborn DS this year for the same reason, although obviously I’m lucky to have DP there for some grown up company.

In previous years we’ve always seen family over the Christmas period, but not always on Christmas Day due to DP’s job. Some years I’ve spent most of Christmas Day on my own until DP gets home from work. I am sad about not seeing family - especially as it’s DS’ first Christmas and he hasn’t met any relatives yet - but I think quiet Christmasses can be nice sometimes. Lots of Christmas films and hot chocolate, and no arguments over overcooked turkey!

I hope you have a lovely relaxed Christmas with your baby DS.

I don’t really mind a quiet Christmas but I feel a bit sad for my dd (who is very close to my parents) and also a bit unsettled by the fact that it’s world events that are preventing us from seeing each other.

Yes, not for the first time though as it often hasn't made sense for me to travel at Christmas due to the cost/short holiday etc.

I tend to "celebrate" my way rather than stick to any traditions as such - I buy all the party food type food and snacks I enjoy, watch TV, read and generally just have a few super relaxing days with maybe a couple of walks to see Christmas lights on the nearby streets. It's really not bad at all. Smile
