A 160 country study reveals more stringent lockdown measures are NOT associated with decreased mortality.

Instead, poor metabolic health is THE major issue

I know what’s going to happen with this thread, but before people call me a covidiot, granny killer etc etc could you read the study and make your judgement based on the evidence presented and assess for yourself whether all this is justified

Journal is god-awful.

Part of a predatory stable.
Almost impossible to not get published in it.

@MedSchoolRat

This is from that article as a reason they’ve been put on ‘the list’

“ Frontiers’ philosophy is to give all authors a chance to publish their work in one of their journals. In basic science, this is, to a degree, a laudable approach indeed. Many scientists convincingly argue that every single research study should be published and judged by the scrutiny of scientist colleagues in post-publication peer review. Yet this option is not available at Frontiers, and while the reviewers are named, their peer review reports are kept confidential. This concept to publish almost every manuscript, while keeping the peer review process rather opaque, has possibly contributed to the recent placing of the publisher Frontiers on the Beall’s List.”

So what’s your post-publication peer review?

Rich countries (tend to be high latitude) find ways to keep people alive into advanced age in spite of them developing chronic progressive health conditions. Then covid comes along & finishes them off after all.

Fair enough. I can't say that's a wrong finding that contradicts anything else we knew about what kind of people covid kills.

MedSchoolRat · 23/11/2020 18:36

The authors fit regression lines to these plots.

Linear even.
sigh
Epitwitter is full of howls of protest about such ridiculousness (covid related).
No mention of Japan as an outlier. How convenient. Low cases in Japan/Germany is nothing to do with the small number of care homes, and high employment security for care home workers in Japan & Germany & great localised T&T.

Epitwitter won't bother with this article. It's too far down the food chain for anyone to to care. Just add it to the pile of ridiculous.

I feel quite bad for the authors. They actually worked hard to produce this heap of...

Wonder who paid the APC. Dismayed that a publication like this charges so much.
