or do you always have to assume covid?

and do you have to have the three main symptoms required by the test
or does your work let you stay away with a sore throat?

i am amazed at so many people taking time off on mumsnet.
dont your work mind you taking all this time off on a just in case it is covid??
because i have run out of sick leave

I had a cold in September and I didn't take time off. I was snotty, had a headache and was a bit run down. If I felt ill enough I would have taken time off but I was well enough to work and they were happy to have me in as I had none of the main symptoms.

cameocat · 21/11/2020 11:39

I had a cold, streaming. Carried on working but worked one day from gone to try to limit spread to colleagues. I coughed a bit latterly from mucus from cold but it wasn't 'a cough'.

Northernsoullover · 21/11/2020 11:41

What strain of cold is it?

Skipsurvey · 21/11/2020 11:55

how would i know?
sore throat,head ache
sniffly, bunged up
leading to chesty cough
now tickly cough

i guess i just have to man up

Do you have a new cough? Doesn’t mater if it’s tickly or mucus. If it’s a new cough you Need to isolate and test.

Skipsurvey · 21/11/2020 12:12

i had a test 10 days ago during my cold

If you have a cough.....test

GreatBigBeautifulTommorow · 21/11/2020 12:13

Cross posted!

Ours is medical suspension on full pay until found to be negative and then would be sick if too unwell to work.

Northernsoullover · 21/11/2020 12:20

Exactly. You don't know that it is 'just' a cold if you haven't had a test. So many people I have spoken to went to work with covid because they thought it was just a cold!

Skipsurvey · 21/11/2020 12:21

my colleagues would think i was a lunatic having a test so regularly, bit pointless to have another test.

my query was how are all these mumsnetters at home from work not losing their jobs with their sickness record
i feel like a hypochondriac

i had a test 9 days ago

cardibach · 21/11/2020 12:26

A negative test 9 days ago means you (probably) didn’t have covid 9 days ago. You could easily have caught it since. You need to take a test whenever you have symptoms.

Skipsurvey · 21/11/2020 12:27

whose work is allowing this behaviour?

wegetthejobdone · 21/11/2020 12:33

Employers dont have a choice. If people need to self isolate for COVID symptoms then they have to self isolate. It's not standard sick leave. What's hard to understand about it?

Skipsurvey · 21/11/2020 12:37

I am embarrassed to be testing, I have had four tests since April

Have you had symptoms on and off since April?..
jellybeanz1212 · 21/11/2020 12:43

My boss came to work with a cold twice during the first lockdown so I assume of I get one I'll be going in.

jellybeanz1212 · 21/11/2020 12:45

My work wouldn't allow us to be off all the time we'd get the boot

Skipsurvey · 21/11/2020 12:46

I don't know if I have over reacting

A woman at my work has had 4 years since July. On the fourth she tested positive...

Whoknowswhenlockdownwillend · 21/11/2020 13:08

Anyone with cold symptoms should get tested. I only had a scratchy throat and felt like I was coming down with a cold and tested positive. I became very unwell for about three weeks. I think the guidance around a new cough is a bit misleading. I know of a few people who thought they just had a cold, or had their usual yearly cough and ended up testing positive.

justleavemebe · 21/11/2020 13:14

My only symptoms were headache and nausea. Do another test.

Skipsurvey · 21/11/2020 14:03

Our work would not sanction test with cold symptoms
