... did u then retest when recovered to get a negative or assumed when better that u were ok?

Currently have a headache, all over fatigue and my temp readings are all over the place, some green, some red and some orange..

Once you've had a positive test you need to isolate for 10 days (not sure if it's 10 days from test or onset of symptoms would need to check) regardless of how you feel. Even if you feel glorious on day 6 & tested negative, you need to isolate till the end of the 10 days.

No you mustn't retest in order to check you are okay at the end of the illness. In fact 111 told me after you have tested positive the 'system' should stop you from retesting for 90 days. It didn't in my case and because work insisted on it, I retested and was still positive as is the case for most people long after they have recovered. So I had to isolate along with all family (who had also just had it) for another bloody 10 days. What you should do is after 10 days if you have no fever just go back to work as you are no longer contagious after the 10 days even if you are still testing positive.

So people could be walking around even if still positive, I find it hard to believe they are not infectious anymore?

Generally, with most illness you are only infectious for a short period of time. You are more infectious before you show symptoms in a lot of cases. 10 days is very cautious. You’ll likely not be infectious after 5. You may still be symptomatic & not feel better but you will no longer be shedding the virus.

My symptoms were loss of taste and smell. A strange burning sensation in nose. And mild headache. No cough, no temp. I’m 34

Took my sister 7wks to get a negative swab.

@MoirasRoses explains why you don't need to retest & why stopping isolating is not arbitrary but is the medical guidance given and why 10 days isolation is in fact erring on the side of caution.

Kind of makes sense but then why do we hear that early on in the pandemic people were discharged from hospitals back to nursing homes before testing negative
Not sure how long people with pneumonia usually stay in hospital but it seems to me that they may have still been infectious?
