Covid test results - 100 hours and counting...

DS age 4 had a Covid test on Monday. We've not had the results yet. It's clear I over-reacted - he had a continuous cough for no more than an hour first thing on Monday, probably because he had a slight cold and had been asleep all night. We duly got him tested to be on the safe side, as we're seeing family at the weekend for the first time since we came out of local lockdown/lockdown (we are in Wales), and thought we would have the results within 72 hours. If we've not had the results yet, what are the chances of getting them at all? I rang the contact centre this morning but they said they can't chase them up until Saturday morning. I've been advised to ring back then and they could book a new test if needed if he's symptomatic - but he's not now! I'm worried we'll just have to wait another week before we can send him back to school, all because I panicked on Monday and tried to do the right thing.

Has anyone been in this position and actually got a result?

Wow! I am waiting (54 h currently) so was doing some googling and some people have waited up to six days! I was hoping it would be fairly quick as my sister had hers back in under 48 h, but there you go! Hope you get your results soon!

You too, @plantdoctor.

I waited ten days.

My nephew's positive result took 7 days to arrive. He also didn't have any symptoms after the first day.

Wow, good job it’s not for a flight

In Wales too. Tested at 11am on Monday and have heard nothing. I’m starting to think I won’t hear and the test is lost. So frustrating

No good deed goes unpunished. My DS is doing GCSE’s next year, and I’ve got to say that if there is a next time, I would think twice about exactly what “doing the right thing” means.

These wait times are crazy and unacceptable. Makes you realise how unreliable the daily figures are.

Chase it up with your local public health department, OP. DCs had tests done Monday too, and today was the final straw with no news. Was given negative results for both by contacting public health in my local area.

We finally had the result this morning so managed to get DS into school for the afternoon session and to his swimming lesson. What a relief. It does make you think though - if it had been positive, that's a lot of days of contact tracing wasted.

Brilliant news, OPSmile

You would be using a private company for a flight so should get results back earlier (or at least be able to chase easier)
