Laid off while not on furlough, can I claim to go back on?

Had an interview today, looking promising but its been 2 weeks with no pay and I am struggling.

I have been told that as I was employed on 30 October I may be able to ask my former employer to place me on furlough until 2 December. Anyone know if this is correct?

I am not after "free" money, just to be able to pay the bills and ya know...eat!

It was a panic lay off a few days before furlough was announced to be extended, me and everyone else who had been there less than 2 years was binned off within 24 hours.

Should add, I have looked on HMRC and other sites but I cant find info about being laid off after being back at work from furlough, only about being laid off whilst on furlough.

If you were on the payroll on 23rd September you should be able to get back on furlough. Good luck.

Thank you, thats really helpful as I was on payroll on that date and not on furlough.

The problem is your employer will still have to pay NIC, pension contributions and holiday pay so it would still cost them

So they can say no?

They can say no and I've seen that lots of employers have, it's worth asking though!

I will ask but I am not getting my hopes up!

Thanks for the info.
