I know people have it far far worse than me but...

I have a month old baby and a toddler. Toddler goes to the childminder twice a week - wednesdays and Thursdays. I am DESPERATE for a break.

I've got what I think is a.cold but I've got a cough with it. I'm almost certain it's just a cold but obviously I dont know so I'm going to have to isolate and keep DS off.

Like I said, I know its pretty- I'm just gutted. I'm knackered and parenting both of them in this lockdown is hard enough as it is.

Gah.

Coughs do not need to be dry to be associated with coronavirus.

Sorry you’re in this situation op. You’re doing the right thing by isolating and testing. Hopefully it will be a fast result. Flowers

Thanks everyone. It's so hard to do the right thing bit the right thing it is. I had a test at 8am so fingers crossed.

Regardless of the Covid thing - which makes life much worse - parenting kids of those ages is super tough. No extra advice sorry but just want you to know it’s completely normal to feel absolutely overwhelmed.

The guidance we've been given the LA public health lead covering our school is that if you have a cold (snotty nose) and then develop a cough this is not covid, your kid should go to school and you do not need a test.

OhToBeASeahorse · 11/11/2020 18:33

@SunshineOutdoors thank you. It's a tough time I must say.

It does get easier, I promise!

I’m so thankful we didn’t send DC into school or nursery while we waited or decided against getting the test because of our past bad experience.

A whole secondary school bubble I know closed due to parents sending in a child while waiting for a test.

Took my daughter for a test yesterday as she fell ill over the weekend ( there was confirmed Covid in her class last week ) and I also decided to get tested .
The results came in an hour ago, she's negative but I'm positive!
Also a single parent.
I'm currently running round doing housework and washing in case I feel terrible tomorrow!

I feel the same OP, I have 2 DD’s, youngest has severe autism. I have cold symptoms and went for a test today, now I have to keep kids home until I get my results (hopefully won’t take long), explaining to a autistic child that they can’t go to school tomorrow when they are perfectly well is tricky, she loves school more than home and now I have to mess up her routine which will effect her behaviour at home 😭

Do get a test, I managed to go online this morning and get a test within a hour (half hours drive away), it was really easy and didn’t take long. Hopefully I will get the result tomorrow and then kids can return to school if it’s negative, if not I can prepare them fo 2 weeks at home which won’t be fun.

Lovemusic33 · 11/11/2020 21:19

It’s interesting reading other people’s symptoms, I keep telling myself I will get negative test result tomorrow as it’s ‘just a cold’, my symptoms are a dry cough and a burning in my nose.

People saying “if you get a runny nose before a cough then it’s just a cold” are just stupid, the advice is to test if you have any of the 3 main symptoms so if you have just one of those as well as other random symptoms you should go and get a test.

Hugosmugo · 11/11/2020 21:27

I agree @Lovemusic33

And also get annoyed when peolle say 'bad advice' to peolle mentioning getting a test with cold symptoms. So many people have covid with cold like symptoms. The only reason the government have said with one of the 3 main symptoms is because of their incapabilities to have enough tests. Hence it is spreading.

OhToBeASeahorse · 12/11/2020 03:17

Just got the.result - its negative! Yay! Tomorrow in bed with the baby and sleep...

Yay!
Glad you got your negative result.
Sleep, drink plenty of fluids, get well soon.

Lovemusic33 · 12/11/2020 07:10

Thats great news, still waiting for my result, phone watching in hope I get a negative before school starts.

OhToBeASeahorse · 12/11/2020 07:23

Fingers crossed @Lovemusic33

Yes some terrible advice there, I started with headache and runny nose and assumed just a cold at first, but ended up needing test after losing sense of smell.
