Skate parks. Allowed or not?!

DS and I have read through the rules three times and we still can't understand if he can go to the skate park when it's quiet, on his own.

They closed out local one not sure why it says playgrounds can open!
Skateparks are way more socially distanced than little ones on swings and slides 🤷🏼‍♀️

kittykarate · 06/11/2020 11:57

I would have though that they are equivalent to a playground, so I'd be cautiously that it's a yes, as long as he doesn't meet anyone and maintains distance. But, there maybe be local issues, our local cycle training track is closed, but that's probably more about the leisure centre it is attached to being closed.

Qasd · 06/11/2020 11:59

If the council have kept it open then he can go I would say (I would have thought it was equivalent to a play park myself but I would let the council make that call!)

Qasd · 06/11/2020 11:59

Oh and he could meet one friend there too if he wants

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 06/11/2020 12:02

I agree with the others. If it's not closed by the council, nothing to stop him going and nothing to stop him meeting one friend there. BUT if it's anything like the one near me, there will be a gang of them 'hanging out', 80% not even having a skateboard! 🙄🤦🏻‍♀️

Iwantacookie · 06/11/2020 12:03

Ide think it was ok. They are bringing their own equipment so I would of thought that was better than using a slide after 40 other children.

movingonup20 · 06/11/2020 12:08

They have locked the one near me so people have climbed over, the are congregated in a group of 20+ no distancing an hour ago (hence why they were shut) they are 6th formers/young adults at a guess

KitKatastrophe · 06/11/2020 12:15

Yes it's fine. Surely it comes under "playgrounds".

Coasterfan · 06/11/2020 12:50

Ours stayed open in the first lockdown and I assume is still open now, although DS broke both his wrists there in July which has put him off somewhat 😢 I don’t see how it is an infection risk, just the broken bones. Our walk in said he was the 8th double buckle fracture that week from scooters and skateboards.

3littlewords · 06/11/2020 12:58

Ours was locked up last time as was the children's play area, if they are open now I'd say it was ok to use them

CovidStoleTheRainbow · 06/11/2020 13:18

Thanks. He's happy!

Yes, ours is open. DS and a friend were there last night, the police are keeping an eye out though - they spoke to DS to basically say "Good lads, make sure it's just the two of you, if anyone else comes you may need to leave, but you're fine at the moment" etc. etc. DS said the police popped over twice during the time they were there - but there wasn't a problem as such they were just checking.

Skateboard England have released a statement saying the government has advised them skate parks should close.
Outdoor Gyms have to shut.
Playgrounds can stay open.
HmmConfused

CovidStoleTheRainbow · 06/11/2020 16:54

Skateboard England?!

Did someone just make that up?!

How bizarre, both outdoor skateparks near us are still open, as are the outdoor basketball arenas, playgrounds and outdoor gym equipment. Not sure how the skatepark is any different to the playground (arguably less risk as they aren’t touching play equipment). Anyway, as I mentioned the police seem ok with it too, probably even they can’t keep up with the rules.

BogRollBOGOF · 10/11/2020 23:11

I went past a gloriously busy skatepark at the weekend, and its pathetic little laminated sign saying that it was closed for Covid.

Fortunately someone had also removed the litter that was cluttering up some of the outdoor gym equipment too.

I thought the government wanted us to not be obese and to excerise outdoors...

Remmy123 · 11/11/2020 09:18

Of course he can go? Why do people ask such daft questions?
