Car garages. Should they wear ppe for MOT/work being done?

Anyone had any experience?

I haven't seen a rule that says garage workers performing an MOT should wear a
mask.

Why? Are you going to come into contact with someone performing an MOT on your vehicle?

rainbowunicorn · 04/11/2020 20:40

Why would they?

SlayDuggee · 04/11/2020 20:42

At the garages if have seen they have floor to ceiling doors open the whole width of the front of the building so there is plenty of ventilation

slipperywhensparticus · 04/11/2020 20:44

Mine did when they were inside my car and put plastic down they also asked me to show up early and wind the windows down to ventilate prior to the mot

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 04/11/2020 20:48

Mine didn't.

They sanitised the keys - which seemed a littke bit pointless after at least two blokes had had their hands all over my switches/steering wheel/handbrake etc etc 🙄

They put plastic on the seat, but left it there...

I just sanitised my hands, wiped down with Dettol wipes & wound down all the windows & focussed on the small fortune it cost, helped distract me from the Covid risk

Plussizejumpsuit · 04/11/2020 20:51

I think increasingly the evidence is surfaces are low risk. So perhaps good hand hygiene and a mask in the car or doors open. But really it wouldn't worry me. I took my car for some work the other month. They wiped it down inside before they started and afterwards. I still wiped it too. But honestly I didn't give it a second thought. I just don't think it's a big risk.

FreshFreesias · 04/11/2020 20:55

Why should they?

BlanchflowerTulip · 04/11/2020 22:22

I don't think cars can catch covid.

fallfallfall · 04/11/2020 23:17

The guys here all wear gloves and clean coveralls no longer the grease covered fellows of the 50’s.

QueenPaws · 04/11/2020 23:22

The place I work at are wearing gloves and masks. Windows down on cars
Car cleaned and sanitised including keys, steering wheel and anything else you might touch before it's given back to you
Customers to wear masks, no waiting at the garage. Online check in, bring your own pen, no contact hand over.. couldn't do anything more really
Sales are all via phone or online now and handover outside, no contact

My dh is an mot tester. They don't have to wear any ppe but do sanitise car touch points after, ventilate etc.
However what I find absolutely disgusting is customers who leave loads of used masks on the passenger seats and over gear sticks.
One even had one hanging in the mirror like a bloody air freshener!
One of his colleagues refused to test a vehicle because there was about 30 masks in there! The customer is taking it further.
I hope vosa back up the tester!

I've told dh he should refuse too if there's that sort of thing over the gearstick he has to touch!
