Yes, I know it's a first world problem but actually we've never been skiing (cant afford it) but my ds has the chance to go with his best friends family. Its probably the only opportunity he will have. What are the chances of if happening?

I am keeping my hopes up that we will be able to ski over Christmas in France! We have close family who will be there who we haven’t seen since last year! Might be wishful thinking on my part but I do think it will happen! Although need the ski resorts to be allowed to open in the first place!

We're supposed to be going there at Christmas (booked pre-covid). I have to say it isn't looking likely. Most of Austria (including all ski areas) are under level 4 (their highest level) and they've also just introduced increase restrictions (until the end of November) which include ski runs open for elite athletes only. Even if they open up, we've got to rely on our lockdown easing in December (Which is apparently in question according to Michael Gove) to a point where international travel is allowed. At the very least there will be an inbound quarrantine to do in the UK (Which, tbh, we'd be fine with - it's just all the other stuff on top of it). I'm not getting my hopes up I'm afraid. It's doubly annoying as we were supposed to be there in April as well!

It’s likely you will still need to quarantine so depends if he can do that?

AriettyHomily · 02/11/2020 20:24

I can't see it happening, even Easter isn't looking likely.

JacobReesMogadishu · 02/11/2020 20:28

I doubt people here will be allowed to travel, even if we’re out of lock down which personally I doubt....travel restrictions will be stricter for some time.

Not sure about the situation in Austria but France are having an even stricter lockdown than we are so can’t see their ski resorts being open.

Honestly I wouldn't want to take the risk. Travel is so disrupted and chaotic right now. You could lose loads of money on the flights, or he could get stranded, or end up in quarantine etc.

mrshoho · 02/11/2020 20:48

I doubt it.

Sunflowers246 · 02/11/2020 20:52

I highly doubt it, not by next Month.

Isn't the UK classed as a 'high risk' area? In which case you'd need to quarantine for 14 days when entering Austria. That would defeat the purpose really Grin

Sunflowers246 · 02/11/2020 20:58

Actually it was in Austria that the initial European coronavirus transmission started. Packed lifts, bars, restaurants etc. Very difficult to socially distance!

No that's not correct. At the moment you can enter Austria from the UK without the need to quarrantine unless you have travelled in the past 10 days from the following regions: North East, East Midlands, Yorkshire and the Humber. But even if you're coming from one of the affected regions you still don't have to quarrantine in Austria if you can present a negative COVID test taken in the past 72 hours.

But of course these are the current regulations and of course the system could change. I'd be fine with having to take a COVID test before travel and quarantining in the UK on my return if need be. I'm just not sure if a) the ski areas will open on Austria and b) if international travel from the UK for holidays will be allowed by December.
