Uni students should not go home before Christmas

All the details of the new lockdown are on gov.uk and includes this

Universities: There are further restrictions in place:

If you live at university, you must not move back and forward between your permanent home and student home during term time. You should only return home at the end of term for Christmas. We will publish further guidance on the end of term.

Makes sense. We know Covis infections are high in this group, why risk spreading it through other regions/households.

Well that seems pretty logical and simple. Bet you one British pound that 99% of the population won't have bothered to read that far into the restrictions though! (My excuse is I'm in Wales so doesn't apply but to be honest I haven't read ours either, am just staying inside and leaving my uni children there until the end of term)

As a mum of 2 uni students I don't want to agree with this but I do because I have 2 uni students that are at 2 unis 4 and 5 hours drive away from our home which is in Wales.

They have spent this term living in thier 2nd year accommodation with friends they made last year and both are having long periods of time alone in their accommodation. All the time they are under various restrictions in thier area.
All thier house mates who live alot closer to thier family homes and with no Welsh local lockdown and then fire break to restrict their travel are going home frequently or for longer periods of time.

Both will now be spending lockdown in their uni houses. One totally alone. The other 5 are all travelling home this week. 1 of those is already home (again) and now not returning. My other student will have 1 other staying as he's from N Ireland and can't go back home either. Both live in shared accommodation with 5 and 6 others. So out of 13 students in these 2 houses 10 are going home.

It's shit for them. Stuck in alone. Not all students gave a choice to travel and get home and its affecting those left there.
