Moving House and overnight stay allowed? I guess not?

My elderly parents have sold the family home and they move to their new home on Friday 27th November. They are moving a couple of hours away so they have made arrangements and paid extra for the removal van to arrive on Thursday 26th November to load the van. They were then going to drive the 3 hours to their new town, stay in a Premier Inn, and move into their new home at 10 am Friday morning when they get the keys.

I think Moving house will be ok, but will the overnight stay be allowed? or will they have to camp on the floor of their old property on Thursday and bin the Premier Inn? Help!

Depends if the premier inn in question is staying open. I think they should phone them and ask. Some closed in the last lockdown and others stayed open to house those would otherwise be homeless and eg people like key workers.

They cant stay in a hotel, NO

Some hotels are staying open as it's within the rules to stay in a hotel for work etc.

Pragmatically I would have thought that this should be ok as they're not going back and forth (as you would gif a holiday, second home etc).

But its not for work and thats the only reason tour allowed

I guess you will need to wait for the guidelines to be published. My guess would be that it would be allowed as it is part of the process of them moving house.

Up until now house moving has been allowed.
