Our dentist doesn’t seem to have reopened - well we are still waiting for a rescheduled appointment from March

NoMoreFlowers · 31/10/2020 19:44

I hope not. I’ve got root canal treatment booked for Friday and I’m in agony

RaggieDolls · 31/10/2020 19:45

Surely they fall under the 'go to work if you can't work from home' bit but who really knows. Confused

EggysMom · 31/10/2020 19:47

Our dentist has never really re-opened, they are doing emergency cases only. No routine check-ups.

Wouldn't that come under emergency or necessary treatment?
PinkSparklyPussyCat · 31/10/2020 20:34

My crap NHS dentist still hadn't reopened in August! When I phoned them they said they would add me to 'the list' and I haven't heard from them since so I doubt this will make any difference to them.

dementedpixie · 31/10/2020 20:35

I imagine they will deal with emergency treatment only

Someonesayroadtrip · 31/10/2020 20:37

Ours are open in Wales, well as open as they can be.

Same here.

I've honestly now given up ringing them to ask when they will resume actual check ups and if they can book me in to take a look at bleeding gums which are only getting worse.

I swear unless all your teeth are falling out or you're a private patient they just don't want to know.

Me too.

I already paid up front as well.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 31/10/2020 20:40

I gave up waiting for mine to call me and saw a private dentist and I'm now looking at a hefty bill to put right what previous NHS dentists have done.

Do NHS dentists get paid per patient on their books or per treatment?

MayFayre · 31/10/2020 20:42

I hope so. My appointment from March was rescheduled for this coming Friday!

Doryhunky · 31/10/2020 20:44

Our nhs dentist kept delaying our checkups. Now ds needs five fillings and two teeth removed for which I am going private. Shocking.

Dragonglass · 31/10/2020 20:45

My son was due to have 2 teeth taken out and braces fitted back in April. Obviously that was cancelled and the brace fitting was rescheduled for 9th November. He had the teeth removed last week, but now I have no idea if he will be getting his braces fitted.

Macey78 · 31/10/2020 20:46

Our NHS dentist never reopened since March either. Am sure they are seeing private patients. And to be seen on the NHS you have to be on your knees!! I was about to start a course of treatment for gum disease and if this treatment did not work he was going to refer me or a specialist. Am sure I'll have no teeth left because of all this Confused

Dontlickthetrolley · 31/10/2020 20:50

We must be one of the lucky ones, we had an NHS appointment in March, just before lockdown and then had our 6 month check up just a few weeks ago. I'm due to go for the NHS equivalent of a hygienist appointment on Friday. Will see what text messages I get this week.

haymumof2 · 31/10/2020 20:50

The NHS dental practices haven't been given the go ahead by the chief dental officer to start routine check ups, But the dental practice should be open to provide advice, antibiotics or emergency treatment if needed.

cptartapp · 31/10/2020 20:51

Orthodontists? I've two DS in braces, the older will be married at this rate before he gets the damned things off.

Tickledtrout · 31/10/2020 20:52

DD's NHS orthodontist reopened back in July @Dragonglass even though our dentist still hasn't rescheduled check-ups from April. She had her teeth extracted by the dentist at the orthodontist's direction. The the orthodontist fitted the brace. So your DS might be ok.

Yikes. That's a lot of treatment, have you got some sort of plan to stop him needing fillings again?
Doryhunky · 31/10/2020 20:54

No sugar ever again... no more lockdown baking treats!

RoseDog · 31/10/2020 20:55

I'm in Scotland, our orthodontist has been open for months and seem to be doing normal routine stuff, ds has been 3 times. He has also been to the dentist to get a milk tooth removed as part of his orthodontic treatment, he had an appointment cancelled in April, I think the orthodontist had to really push for the dentist to do it though!

We have had our routine check up appointment cancelled with no idea when it might get rescheduled.

yeOldeTrout · 31/10/2020 20:55

My private dentist rang about 3 weeks ago to say they were ready to start doing procedures. I presume the wait for any appt would have been not short. Luckily I got a filling done elsewhere 6 weeks earlier.

Peppafrig · 31/10/2020 20:56

Mine hasn’t opened up I had treatment cancelled in April and still waiting . Was told to put in a temporary filling myself in June and that was all they could do when my filling feel out. Still got it in and told they won’t do anything until I have swelling or toothache.
