What type of lockdown do we think it'll be?

I know it's rumoured to be national.... but to what extent will the restrictions be I wonder?
I wonder if everyone will be in tier 3.... Or I wonder if it'll be a ban on social mixing all together... I read that non essential shops will remain open?
Any thoughts anyone? Why do they always leak minimal information!
Can't wait for my 30th in Nov! Might end up treating myself to a trip to Sainsbury's 😂

They leak minimal info so they can gauge reaction and modify their plan accordingly, and by "gauge reaction", I mean from the important people, not us.

It will be like the last one but with children in school. So no household mixing, non-essential shops closed etc...

Listening to LBC this morning, guest speaker (don’t know who he was) suggested that lockdown will start on Wednesday with
Nurseries, schools and universities stay open.
Non essential shops and services (hairdressers etc) to close.
No mention of swimming pools and gyms.

Guess we’ll have to wait until Monday for confirmation. Going to be a weekend of speculation.

I wonder if the hairdressers will be closed? Not hugely important in the grand scale of things, but I've only been able to have two appointments since the first lockdown and am so sick of looking and feeling crap.
I had also been hoping for my dentist to offer appointments in November but I doubt that will be happening now.

An ineffective one. I'm in Greater Manchester and our rates have jumped from 8/100,000 at the beginning of September to 450/100,000 despite local measures.
The more that remains open the less effective it will be.
My dc have managed all of 2 full weeks in school since September due to various isolations either at home or at school. In fact only my 5yo has done 2 full weeks. The year 7 and 9 dc have had even more disruption. I would rather full on remote learning which there school does very well with Microsoft teams and online lessons so that they can settle in to a routine instead of doing the school attendance Hokey Cokey. It's so stressful never knowing what the weeks will bring.
I'm ECV so I'd rather have them at home from the view of my own safety but as a single mum with absolutely no help I found lockdown very difficult being shielded and homeschooling 3 dc and doing my own college work.
Locally the rules are being flouted daily in a variety of ways but social mixing among school age kids is as though it were 2019.

I just hope they keep support bubbles, I need to keep seeing my Dad.

So annoying tho at least it will stop the tourists coming and getting swept into the sea etc

I don't know but I doubt it'll last just a month as proposed.

And if it is a month and they're shutting non essential shops and then reopening a few weeks before Christmas its just asking for a surge in cases when everyone rushes out all at once.

I really hope it doesn't happen.

Thats what worries me. I found it so hard last time when it kept being extended and extended and extended when it was only meant to be for 3 weeks.

surely without furlough non essential have to stay open or literally millions of jobs go? The new thing doesn’t cover it does it? I think they’ll be all sorts of disorder if that happens

It was never ever going to be done in three weeks and it was never said it would be. I don’t know anyone who thought that. They had to have review points set but even the ridiculously over optimistic buffoon that is Boris Johnson was talking about 12 weeks.

This one will run until nearly Christmas I think. Personally I’d rather just celebrate Jesus’s half birthday this year but too many people will be set on having their normal Christmas, seeing family etc for lockdown to go over the holidays.

Would be great if people would just stop guessing and bloody wait ffs and then you’ll have your answer once you hear the new Guidelines😂

I’m hoping for a strong one to greatly reduce case numbers so everything closed as per April but let dentists and opticians continue as they should be seen as essential healthcare.

It won’t work if they leave education and nurseries open as group gatherings with no SD are where it spreads far more easily and then gets taken home.

It'll be a half-arsed lockdown ... not enough will close, but it will go on for too long so any future measures will be ignored.

If they shut the shops it will be crazy come December when they open again.

Need to just be a bit tougher on the messages... stay home if you feel iffy, bloody well wash your hands, stop socialising.

It is a socially spread disease. Stop it spreading.

I wonder if take-away or outdoor seating for cafes etc will still be allowed?

Or other outdoor socially distanced events?

Last one didnt work, and neither will this one unless it is utterly draconian and includes schools etc. My brother is in China. The lockdown there was rigidly enforced. Life where he is is now back to normal with all shops and restaurants open.

I think they should start by limiting travel between counties/regions but allowing families etc to still see each other if you’re in the same county. It’s worked in other places - if you see images of south Australia, life is pretty normal.

I’m in a low risk tier one region but there have still been outbreaks, all in tourist/second home hotspots and traced back to people visiting from elsewhere. These are the circuits that need to be broken.

I’m in two minds about schools, but then i was shocked that out of the billions spent the government haven’t created a workable school from home model for children that can be at home (I’m actually shocked that a plan for this didn’t already exist beyond the Oak Academy).

@Yohoheaveho yep. Lockdown without the financial support will not be adhered to. Look at how many people aren't isolating when they should be because they can't afford it.

If we are told we must sacrifice our jobs and livelihoods then people will not comply, and I'll be one of them.

It will be a pointless and ineffective one that even less people will respect.

What do you think will happen after a month once they reopen things? the same all over again (cases will go up) only with more people on the dole, businesses gone up the wall and people's mental health destroyed.

Expect mass unrest soon.

At what point do these spineless governments just come clean and accept that we can shield the old and the vulnerable but we should no longer put the majority of the population in cages when the average age for Covid 19 victim is 82?
