I hesitated to start this thread but I have a question about Covid tests.

Did anyone had sinus pain following the test? I had my first test yesterday. It was part of routine testing for work. I have no symptoms and have not been in contact with any known cases. The test hurt more than i expected. The nasal swab really stung quite a lot and my nose ached afterwards.
I used to suffer badly from sinus infections in my teens and 20s but haven't had any issues for 20 years. Since last night I have sinus pain in the side that was tested.
I've taken paracetamol but it hasn't helped. The back of my head is aching.
Has anyone had this? I can't find much online about after effects of testing.

I haven't and neither has my son.
Did you do the test on yourself? I'm wondering if you went up a bit too high.
Hope you feel better soon

No. Not self-administered. I've asked a couple of people I know and their test didn't cause them problems at all.

There's not a lot of information to be found about after effects of the test although from what I have seen I think she did the test badly. It's seems like it should be aimed towards where the back of nose meets throat but she definitely angled up higher towards my eye.

Yes I did. I have issues with repeated sinusitis, allergies etc. The test was incredibly painful for me, and I could feel it for 2/3 weeks afterwards. My nose hurt and felt bruised.

Fittata · 30/10/2020 21:46

The home test instructions are just to swab around the nostril, not to stick it in really far.

I have a history of sinusitis and for work have had multiple tests with no sinus pain BUT wearing a mask in a very hot room for over an hour triggered awful sinus pain...as well as coming in from cold to hot in a mask all the time seems to be playing havoc with bungee up nose has anything similar happened to you.

Borderscotch · 30/10/2020 21:49

Yep, I had horrible sinus pain after but I'm prone to sinusitis. It went after about 24 hrs. I followed the guidelines exactly so don't think I went too deep.

Thanks for the replies. I'm returning to work in the office next week so haven't been wearing a mask for any length of time and I don't have a cold or any symptoms of sinusitis prior to the test.
I haven't had sinus problems for many years. It seems too much if a coincidence for it not to be caused by the test.
More paracetamol and an early night is in order I think.
