Covid + with 6 week old baby

Hi everyone. I'm looking for someone who's been in the same position or is currently in the same position. Yesterday morning the 4 people in my house (all adults) tested positive for COVID-19. I have a 6 week old baby who didn't get tested and now I am worried sick about what might happen if he gets it.

All the adults are symptomatic to varying degrees with DH being the worse by far. Bed bound/sleeping constantly since Saturday night.

I can't sleep and am just laying here watching the baby to make sure he doesn't take a sudden turn in the night and I don't notice

Has anyone had a small baby whilst also having COVID? Did the baby get unwell? I think I'm just looking for a hand hold really and honest accounts of other people's stories.

My mams neighbour caught it a few weeks ago in hospital when she had her baby. She started with symptoms a few days after getting home. Her newborn didn't catch it or display any symptoms

It is very worrying for you, but try and look after yourself and your baby. Rest as much as you can. So many people have reported that children and babies have not caught it, whilst living with positive cases, or if they have, they’ve shown no symptoms.

Oh bless you. I was pretty ill in March (so before testing). DS2 was 8 weeks old, I carried on breastfeeding so didn't SD from him. He had a cough but was otherwise fine. A few nights he slept propped up on me (took in turns with DH to stay awake).

Your baby is at no risk from covid. I hope you don’t feel too bad and get well soon.

The risk to baby is tiny, much less than to an adult. Are you breastfeeding? If so any antibodies you’re making to fight it will be going into baby and protecting them.

Yes I'm breastfeeding but I've been purely expressing so the baby isn't so close to me for long periods of time while I feel so poorly still

Hope that everyone is wearing a mask inside the home. Please keep yourself and baby in a separate room. Air regularly with the window wide open for 15 mins at a time. No common meals.
Hopefully you aren’t dashing about caring for 3 covid patients. Your baby is your priority. They should look after themselves. Drop meals at the door if you really need to, but don’t go into their rooms. They can reinfect each other or increase their viral loads by not isolating from each other. Keep away from the others.
If you have it too, or as you are at risk,please Anyway wear a mask around the baby. All day if you need to. Breastfeeding will help massively but avoid air transmission. Keep your hands clean.

Is there anywhere you can go, eg can you go and stay in a spare room at your parents, staying away so you dont infect them, but keeping baby away from covid.

Hopefully you and baby will be fine but don’t let people downplay The potential risks. Take care.

Oh, just read your answer that you have it too. In which case you cannot go to another household.
Masks and handwashing hourly airing and keeping baby away from the other household members who tested positive so if baby gets any of the virus, it is only from you. That way your breastmilk will be more tailored to those strains, and the viral load is less than from 3 different carriers.

I had it when baby was about 6 weeks old. Carried on as normal so with no social distancing within the house and breast feeding baby - neither baby nor toddler had symptoms

Im worried sick and need some advice plesse.
My partner tested positive for covid 2 weeks ago, i got identical twin boys 20 weeks old, one of them looked abot under weather at the same time as dad and recovered fairly quick.
On the other hand his brother has been sick for almlst a week now, started with +38 temperature for 24hr even calpol didnt help. The day after random coughs and cranky. Day after blocked nose and it suddenly looked like he is finally recovering but today he looks very unwell again, constantly complaining, hoarsey voice, blocked noise, slightly heavy breathing, cries midfeed.
Ive been calling 111 since symptoms started as i can't leave the house in case if we got covid, he was diagnosed bronchitis over the phone.
He is very little and more fragile compare to his brother, he was already in hospital for 4 nights back in oct for infection. Im worried if he ends up in hospital again when its too late. 😭😭😭😭😭😭

@Twiningit have you called 111 again tonight? You know him best so if you are worried then phone and ask for some medical advice. What do you mean by heavy breathing? Is he struggling to breathe or is his check sucking in when he breathes?

@testingtesting321thank you for getting back to me, yes called them and thry advised someone is gonna call me in an hr, they called this morning and i was told local gp is gonna call me shortly so hopefully at some p

Hopefully we will get a call from a dr sometime today. Paramedic could hear my other son in the background and said he sounds rough too and needs to be seen by a dr too. 😔

His chest doesn't get sucked in with every breath but you can hear him breathing faster and louder. Im judt worried if they dont get checked and it gets worse

Did they call yet? I hope he is ok

@SpaceSharkTea , I'm sure I have read being close to baby and feeding them directly from the breast is better for ensuring they get the right antibodies they need , especially at times of illness.

@testingtesting321no not yet , some delay is to be expected due to both pandemic and holidays😭 my other twin looks abit unwell too. Its so tough to be a parent

I'm sorry to hear that and I hope your little one is ok. I think it affects every baby differently I can only share my experience with you.
I got twin boys, they were infected when they were 20 weeks, one was abit unwell, clingy and you could tell he is feeling poorly, some random coughs, diarrhea (they got reflux so not sure vomiting was covid related or not), he only had temperature for one night. Recovered fully within a week.
My other twin on the other hand got it really bad, temperature for 24hr even Calpol didn't help, random coughs and lost his voice for a day or so, diarrhea, screamed slot but I couldn't tell what's wrong, he was very clingy, runny nose hence kept waking up at night, Salin nasal spray helped slot but not sure if you can use it on a 6 weeks old.
With twin1 I wouldn't even know he's got covid if their dad hadn't tested positive but twin2 was seriously ill, I was helpless, called 111 and gp everyday but different advice on every call.
I really don't mean to scare you as every baby is different but due to your baby's age please keep an on his/her symptoms, when my son was 8 weeks he suddenly got quieter and sleepier, called gp and they said it's normal! The next day his body temperature dropped to 34.8 and we called 111, ambulance arrived and they said he is all good but by law they still got to take him to hospital for check up due to his age, he crashed as soon as we got to hospital. His skin got so patchy and he went all ragdoll! We were so lucky it happened in hospital, he had some infection but never found out what it was so he was treated for septic, luckily he is all good now but in that age their immune system is not mature yet and any infection is very dangerous.
When I called 111 for my son they kept saying keep an eye for symptoms but I think it's best if you take him to hospital if there is any change in his temperature or diarrhea or he looks unwell. You are the mom you know best if your baby needs help or not.
Btw maybe you wanna order a test for him already, it was very stressful to wait for the test as gp said I need to do the test myself.
Hopefully he will be fine, don't stress out too much and trust your maternal instinct.

My DH tested positive for Covid and myself and our 7 month old didn't catch it (that we know of - didn't display any symptoms)

@rt00063 I really don't want to scare you, I just wanted to share my experience with you but bear in mind I got twins and they were born at 36 weeks, my point was it affects each baby differently (in my experience). both boys are all good and healthy now. I'm sure your baby will be fine too X
It's a very weird virus and everyone reacts differently.
Both me and my partner had symptoms in march 2020, I got it baaad but he was just a bit unwell, since I was pregnant with twins I had scans every other week and funny enough I tested positive until mid June with no symptoms other than loss of sense of smell. My partner caught it realllyyy badly in December for the second time but I was totally fine. Hopefully you and your baby will be totally fine xxx
