Do we think this is likely www.google.co.uk/amp/s/uk.mobile.reuters.com/article/amp/idUKKBN27634R

It seems very positive for the American people, will it be the same for the UK?

I wouldn’t believe it unless I hear Dr Fauci saying it!! Anything in the run up to the election should be taken with a pinch of salt! That said I’m generally pretty positive about vaccines coming in the next few months.... but anything coming from the US at the moment could be election spin.

Mr Trump has got a vaccine from the spider people do it, everything’s going to be great!

HerRoyalNotness · 22/10/2020 13:46

Scant info there. They did say Pfizer has said they won’t even have the info for approval until late November. I’d it doesn’t get approved they’ll hVe worthless product they’re manufacturing and have to start again. I don’t think it will be that soon. Trials are still in progress. Maybe someone in the know on here will know how long a trial normally takes?

PuzzledObserver · 22/10/2020 13:48

UK sources have said possible rollout to priority groups by the end of the year.

CovidPostingName · 22/10/2020 13:51

If they can pay for it, sure...

PigletJohn · 22/10/2020 14:18

Unfortunately, any rumour emanating from the Trump is worthless.

PigletJohn · 22/10/2020 14:20

Thread title is misleading.

The text says:

"The U.S. government is “cautiously optimistic” that one or two vaccines, likely from Pfizer Inc or Moderna Inc, will be available by the end of the year and can begin to be distributed to Americans, officials said during a news conference."

I am American and I am hoping that someone somewhere in other countries will develop it. I am tired of these greedy pharmaceutical companies making profit off of people’s health and we don’t need to rely on capitalism too much to come up with great things to help people.

Agree with this, it should never be about profit unless said profit can actually go towards those that need.

My DH works in clinical trials. Usually they take years (develop, recruit participants, administer medicine, monitor, etc.) but obviously the vaccine trials are going as fast as they safely can. Apparently the vaccine trials need a certain number of confirmed virus cases (in either the placebo or vaccine group) before they can unblind participants. At the same time they are monitoring "adverse events" - side effects.

Anyways, we are waiting while they try to prove efficacy.

It is a possibility that the UK will be able to start vaccinations on front line workers and the most vulnerable in December.
There are 3 vaccines in the final stages of testing.
