If your young child has had COVId what were their symptoms? The traditional symptoms of cough and temperature or did they have others?

Just a sore throat here

Sorehandsandfeet · 21/10/2020 19:44

Son had a bad headache and sore tummy. Daughter has the cough

agteacht · 21/10/2020 19:45

My daughter is a close contact of someone in her nursery bubble. She doesn't have a temperature but she has a sick tummy and cold, could be a coincidence though 😬

Just a mild cough, then anosmia later which played out as them being really upset that their food didn't taste right.

TaxTheRatFarms · 21/10/2020 19:52

Mild sore throat for a few days, then very frequent painful cough, vomited once, high temperature, exhaustion, didn’t want to eat, then after a week broke out in a rash. He was 10 so I don’t know if he counts as “young” though! Smile
Hope your dd feels better soon, it’s horrible not knowing and having to worry isn’t it Flowers

Ratatcat · 21/10/2020 19:55

Of the two children I know who had it and tested positive one had a tummy upset and the other had a rash. Neither had any other symptoms.

agteacht · 21/10/2020 19:55

Oh interesting about the food

Awww @TaxTheRatFarms your son sounds like he wasn't well at all!

DD is 10 months so hard to know how she's really feeling!

What sort of rash @Ratatcat ?

JacktomyDaniel · 21/10/2020 19:56

3 year old. Temp of 40. Extremely lethargic, fast breathing and groaning. Lasted 2 days. No other symptoms.

Ratatcat · 21/10/2020 19:58

I don’t know I’m afraid re the rash just that it was the only symptom.

StellaGib · 21/10/2020 20:00

Cold symptoms - runny nose, sneezing, hoarse voice. Then a couple of days later an occasional cough.

TaxTheRatFarms · 21/10/2020 22:28

@agteacht It was the illest I’ve ever seen him but thankfully he’s much much better now. He had a few months of fatigue and recurring tonsillitis - maybe the virus found a comfy home in his tonsils!

If it helps, his rash looked very much like a chicken pox rash - red skin, raised white itchy lumps, but it only lasted a day.

I think 10 months is much harder than 10 years when they’re poorly. I hope she perks up soon!

Kitcat122 · 22/10/2020 06:44

One just a sore throat for a few days. One sore throat and temp for a few days.

Porcupineinwaiting · 22/10/2020 08:52

4 year old next door had diarrhoea, fever and fatigue, then the cough developed. His little sister got cough and fever and rash but was less poorly. Both better within a couple of weeks.

agteacht · 22/10/2020 20:21

Wow that's a real variety of symptoms. Glad all your little ones are now okay ❤️
Will keep an eye out for some of these...

My year 6 class positives had a "cold" which they all came in to school with, and tummy aches in others. My nephew (7) had cough, lack of breath, temperature and ended up in ICU. He was left with a heart problem. This is why it's best not to send them in at all if ill.

FireUnderpants · 22/10/2020 21:40

Sky high temperature for 3 days, he was alternating paracetamol and ibuprofen and it was barely touching it.

Slept for 2 days and looked miserable for a good fortnight.

Constant coughing that went on for a month. He was given a blue inhaler as he was struggling to catch a breath to talk.

High blood glucose levels for a good few weeks (type 1 diabetic). His insulin was doubled and we were still having to set timers to give extra injections every 2 hours round the clock to get it down. Me and his dad were alternating night time corrections so we could get some sleep. It completely fucked up his Hba1c.

That sounds super tough! Hope he’s feeling better soon!

Pre widespread testing so not confirmed but we all seemed to have it (their Dad had all the ‘normal’ symptoms). Mine aged 4 and 6 had persistent bad headaches, stomach aches, and what they said felt like a ‘spiky chest’ after leaping about. Felt hot to the touch on the torso, but didn’t register as a temp. Several waves, especially for my son. They were fine and played most of the time but needed painkillers especially for the headaches.
