Covid guidance re dogs in pubs

Whatatoodoodle · 20/10/2020 20:54

Just went to book our first pub meal since lockdown and found that our favourite pub is no longer allowing dogs in ‘due to government guidance’
One of our greatest pleasures pre pandemic was a nice long walk followed by a pub with the dog snoozing under the table.
Anyone know if this guidance is in place everywhere and if so why?!

If they’re saying it’s due to government guidance maybe look up what that guidance might be?

linelgreen · 20/10/2020 21:07

I would much rather visit a pub where well behaved dogs are than one full of children who cannot behave and are allowed to spoil the enjoyment of others !!

GirlCrush · 20/10/2020 21:11

me too @linelgreen

The guidance for restaurants/pubs here -

www.gov.uk/guidance/working-safely-during-coronavirus-covid-19/restaurants-offering-takeaway-or-delivery

doesn't mention dogs at all.

We went for a pub meal last week with 2 dogs in tow

RedMarauder · 20/10/2020 21:31

Your favourite pubs doesn't like dogs. They just let them in to help make them more money.

AriettyHomily · 20/10/2020 21:51

What exactly isn't he government guidance? We were out with our dog yesterday

Marie84 · 20/10/2020 21:54

I work in a pub and we still allow dogs in. I don't understand that and definitely haven't heard that before.

NoSquirrels · 20/10/2020 21:56

There’s no specific government guidance on dogs in pubs.

Your local just means “all these extra rules are shit & we’ve had to rearrange everything so we can’t also cope with badly behaved dogs so we’re banning them all”.

Fair enough! I couldn’t find anything in the guidance about dogs-just wanted to check I hadn’t missed something.

Maybe they take up valuable space that they need between tables or something?!
They’ve always welcomed them before.

I’ll find somewhere else next time-relieved it’s not universal.

Maybe they're finding it hard to keep distancing going with dogs in the pub as soft hearted people either go and pat them or irresponsible owners let them wander? Then the pub is actually responsible for not enforcing and can be fined. If it's changed to a more food based business registration as a result of COVID then it might be an environmental health requirement. Maybe still go but get someone to dog sit? It's a shame for them to lose custom it's probably not their fault.

Oh yes we’re still going on this occasion-it’s a really nice pub and the dog won’t know she’s missing out Grin.
