Has anyone seen a petition yet? Surely it can not be accepted that just because Andy Burnham has pissed them off they are going punish the people of Greater Manchester?

Haven’t seen anything yet.

Youandmeareluckytobeus · 20/10/2020 23:07

The govt have clarified the £60 million is still on the table. I believe that means there is actually £82 million available to GM.

What do you want a petition for?

Fannybawz · 20/10/2020 23:09

Go and read the news OP

You know, the real stuff, not Facebook or twitter or whatever

Hmm
DamitJanet · 21/10/2020 07:09

The £22m is for enforcement etc. The package for businesses is yet to be agreed, that’s the £60m that is ‘still on the table’. That tweet is comparing apples and oranges, but makes a good rumour for those using the situation for personal political gain.

It's £60 million in total, so an extra £38 million.

Argument for more than Merseyside and Lancashire is that Manchester has been in partial lockdown since the end of July and is already in a worse position than these other areas.

username49583 · 21/10/2020 09:49

So £60 million for 2.8 million is still a lot less per head compared to other areas.

@Fannybawz I was watching the news it was annoced live by Andy Burnham. He had to read it in the middle of his speech. Go and find another post to be a horrible person on

OP posts:
username49583 · 21/10/2020 10:01

Merseyside £29 per person
Lancashire £28 pp
Newark £62 pp
Manchester £21 pp (based on £60million)

Plus as @Zampa said GM has had much longer restrictions already

Disgusting

OP posts:
Flaxmeadow · 21/10/2020 10:11

based on £60million

But it isn't just 60 million.

Each county in the north is worked out per head of population and they all would receive the same. Can you imagine what the others would say if they weren't, especially the money concious Yorkies (sorry Yorkshire Grin )

And Newark isn't in the north anyway

Plus as @Zampa said GM has had much longer restrictions already

This isn't true either

Parts of Lancashire and half of West Yorkshire have been under the same restrictions as GM and for the same amount of time

username49583 · 21/10/2020 10:18

The extra funding is based on going into tier 3 which is all different per head

OP posts:
username49583 · 21/10/2020 10:19

I know Newark isn't in the North the figures are a clear indicator

Nope. If they were different we would have heard about it in a never ending stream in local papers, believe me

The met counties in the north are
Merseyside, Greater Manchester, West Yorkshire, South Yorkshire and Tyne and Wear. The only ones making a show of themselves so far, and by that I mean the leaders, is GM

Burnham does not have the support of the rest of the north. Ask yourself why?

Why did Liverpool/Merseyside and South Yorkshire agree to tier 3 (West Yorkshire will probably be next) but GM didn't? When they were all offered the same (per capita)

notroundthebend · 21/10/2020 10:59

Let's just print more money shall we... or grow some more on trees 🤷‍♀️ why is it so about saving this shit show with money.! Why are the infection rates so high up north??? 🤔

Why was there more cases in London in March?
username49583 · 21/10/2020 12:55

Lancashire MPs have said they felt bullied into agreeing.

Why is the North worse probably linked to poverty the same way it's seems to be worse for ethic minority communities.

username49583 · 21/10/2020 12:59

A lot of people I know are desperate to make a living. It's not 'money' as in they are greedy. It's money that will keep a roof over their heads, their houses warm in the winter and food in their stomach. You know basic living standards.

username49583 · 22/10/2020 07:15

@Flaxmeadow It appears we do have support - more than than 40 leaders of the north signed a letter calling for more financial support for areas under Tier 3 lockdown - saying they ‘stand alongside Greater Manchester’.

Northernshepherd · 22/10/2020 14:35

I know it's irrational of me but it all just makes me resent London so much. I'm going to make sure where I spend my money reflects my loyalty from now. So northern based businesses where I can. I'd love a political party that represents the North too.

Be northern, buy northern, vote northern.

username49583 · 22/10/2020 20:07

@Northernshepherd I completely understand your feelings. Even more so when the government has decided to fund those areas in tier 2 suddenly as London is placed into it.

Having said that I do love London and regularly use to travel down before all this. I just have never felt this North/South divide as much as I do now Sad
