Holidays in the uk.... Tier 3 .... can stay in hotels but not holiday homes 🤷‍♀️

Have I just read that right on gov site? And it says for other than work “try to avoid travel” but the BBC site says “must not travel” if tier 3 ..... no wonder the country is confused

As far as I’ve understood the rules (and were all bloody confused) is that if you’re in tier 3, you can only travel and stay in your own area, not outside it, but only in a hotel, b&b etc, not another house.
Any other tiers you can stay anywhere in England, but again only in paid accommodation, with your own household if tier 2, and with others (socially distanced ) if tier 1.
