ONS - If you’ve had a test, how were you notified?

We had our tests done on Friday.

Today we had a call to say one is positive. I asked if they were sending confirmation but they said not. Should I be receiving a text, email or anything to show my employer?

Thank you

I’m assuming I’m negative because we never hear anything back.

Have they contacted your dr?.

Magnavixen · 14/10/2020 20:54

No, they haven’t contacted our doctor nor the children’s school.

It was just a really odd phone call. They knew the name of the person but not date of birth. They asked me for the date of birth and said the info they have is incomplete.

When I asked if I’d receive confirmation of the positive test they said no. I said school or employers might require proof and was told they couldn’t imagine anyone questioning it.

Afterwards, I started to wonder if it was a prank?!

How can they not email or text anything?

We've never received any results, despite being assured we would even if negative. So I assume they were negative.

Lolita89 · 14/10/2020 21:05

We’ve received our (negative) result by both text and email at the same time. Sounds a bit odd to receive a phone call with only half the details known. Maybe contact the GP to see if they can see anything in their records?

socialistmamma · 14/10/2020 21:08

We got letters to say we were negative, they came over a week after we'd had the test (so after we'd had the 2nd test)

Imissmoominmama · 14/10/2020 21:09

I sent mine back yesterday. The online form I had to fill in to register my kit asked for phone no and email to let me know the result.

I would phone to ask; that doesn’t sound right.

SunInTheSkyYouKnowHowIFeel · 14/10/2020 21:12

Have you still got the instructions for the test kit they sent? Or did you do the drive in test? Some home kits you have to register the bar code and your details to get the result.

I"d phone up and check as it could be a scam, seems odd they asked for your date of birth.

Lobsterquadrille2 · 14/10/2020 21:14

That sounds odd. I had an email followed by a letter.

Magnavixen · 14/10/2020 21:24

To clarify, the tests we had are part of the ONS COVID survey where you have weekly tests.

We had our first tests on Friday. Someone comes to the house with the tests, watches you do the tests from the doorstep and takes them away.

I’ve emailed to ask about the phone call today.

Husband and I are really unsure about what to do tomorrow. We know for sure both employers will ask for some kind of confirmation. Also, it will affect our income if we isolate. I’m happy to isolate and do the right thing, but I’d like a bit more confirmation than a phone call.

What would you do?

I thought when I read your title that you'd had a one night stand and were wondering how to contact trace your lover Grin

Magnavixen · 14/10/2020 21:35

@xiaoxiong 😂

Phone your doctors. The results definitely go there too (mine have only been negative but I have seen them on my medical record at the doctors).

DrFoxtrot · 14/10/2020 22:06

We've done four tests so far as a household and never been told any of the results. I hope somebody would get in touch if we're positive Confused

Magnavixen · 14/10/2020 22:06

@Whydoyouthinkthatthen Thanks for that info. I’ll ring doctors first thing in the morning 👍

I had a txt and email to confirm negative.

AWryGiraffe · 14/10/2020 22:21

You don't get notified if it's negative if you're doing the ONS survey. Think a lot of people are assuming you got a 'normal' test. Your GP is meant to contact you if it's positive, the person who did our test told us, otherwise you don't hear anything.

CeibaTree · 14/10/2020 22:24

My doctors have had my negative results, so I assume your GP has been informed.

Tohaveandtohold · 14/10/2020 22:54

That phone call sound weird, I would have expected your GP to contact you. You can call them tomorrow to find out though.

Off topic on this one but when you had the test done, how long after before you get the vouchers?

Magnavixen · 14/10/2020 22:57

@tohaveandtohold We’ve not had vouchers come through yet. I believe it’s up to 20 days from test.
