Symptoms or side effects after Flu vaccine? (Children)

My DC are due to have their nasal flu vaccine next week in school. Has anyone else's DC had the vaccine and developed a fever after it? I'm worried any fever they may develop could be either a side effect of the vaccine or start of covid , how to know the difference and when to decide if they need to be tested or not?

I have this dilemma right now. My DD got a fever the day after having her flu jab and definitely couldn't have gone to school. I want her to have it this year but I'm worried she'll get a fever again and I'll have to get a test...not sure if the school will accept it as a side effect or not let her back.

Very tricky one...I know someone who developed a dry cough after flu jab, which triggered test which luckily was negative. So hard to know what to do in these times...

On the NHS site it suggests that raised temperature is only a side effect with the injection, not the spray -

The nasal spray flu vaccine for children is very safe. Most side effects are mild and do not last long, such as:

a runny or blocked nose
a headache
tiredness
loss of appetite

If your child has the injected flu vaccine, side effects include:

a sore arm where the injection was given
a slightly raised temperature
aching muscles

If the child gets a temp at the same time interval as normal i wouldnt get a test.

My DD has a runny nose and typical cold/like symptoms after the flu nasal spray (which I also got, including diarrhoea). She never got a fever or persistent cough so I just carried in as normal

My son had the flu nasal spray on Monday and has now got a cold, cough and temperature. Took him for a test this morning - fingers crossed it’s just side effects.

My DD has nasal vaccine Wednesday and has runny nose and fever today - no cough. If you look at the Flu nasal info leaf;et - fever can occur 1-10 children and classed as a common side effect. NHS page doesn't say this - although provides link to this leaflet.

When I had mine they were very clear that it wasn’t “live” so if I had any side effects such as a raised temperature I would need to get tested for Covid

@NaturalLight , the injection isn’t a live vaccine but the nasal vaccine is live.

I don't know if it was a coincidence but 2-3 weeks later (quite a gap I know) She got quite unwell with sore throat, cough, temperature, tiredness, loss of smell and taste. 5 days later I got the flu. I'm now on antibiotics for a secondary infection. We both tested negative for covid. It is all very odd!

Why is it odd? Did you have a flu jab at the same time? You and she could have caught a cold or other infection that isn't covered by the flu jab... these viruses are still around. Or maybe it was a strain of flu that wasn't covered by the flu jab (unlikely).

Dunno why I said it's odd really, it's not.
