Zoe/king college app has suggested I test for non specific covid symptons

I have a cold, blocked nose, slight tickly throat and that’s all, filled this in on the Zoe app which I have been doing since the start and it has recommended a test which I have done, I’ve told work and they have said I’m not able to work as have done a test, my question is, should I be keeping the kids off school etc, I’m pretty sure I just have a cold and my symptons don’t trigger anything on the nhs site.

You or your family do t need to isolate if you don’t have one of the three main symptoms.

Twinbother · 13/10/2020 13:02

That’s meant to say don’t

Todaythiscouldbe · 13/10/2020 13:02

Your work is wrong. The Zoe app is for research and testing with your symptoms is to rule them out as symptoms of covid.

Neither you nor any of your family need to isolate if you don't have symptoms.

musicalfrog · 13/10/2020 13:03

It's just for research, if you read the email carefully it says they do not necessarily believe you have the virus.

None of you need to isolate.

It’s time this ‘Zoe’ app was shut down imo. The testing capacity we have needs to be focused on those with actual COVID symptoms, not stab in the dark research projects.

Wasn't it Zoe doing this that picked up that loss of sense of smell is a very common symptom?
musicalfrog · 13/10/2020 13:16

Yep Zoe's research did indeed pick that up.

I believe test capacity is better now than it was a month ago so i think OP should get tested.

jenkel · 13/10/2020 13:40

I’ve done test, but just wondering if me and my family should self isolate

No. None of you need to isolate. This is just a research test.

You only need to isolate if you have any of the 3 main symptoms ie high temperature, a cough and/or loss of taste or smell.

AuntImmortelle · 13/10/2020 13:44

I've just done a one after the Zoë app asked me. Mind you it took 5 days for the results. No we didn't isolate or keep kids off school.

For the PP who said the Zoë app should be shut down - they need people with different symptoms to get a test - and they want positive and negative results so they can say 20/30/70% of people with COVID do/don't have a headache etc. It's called research and it needs a good pool of statistics to make these findings. You honestly have no idea, obviously.

jenkel · 13/10/2020 14:39

Well I was perhaps a bit silly and told the schools, as soon as I mention the word test, the whole world seems to lockdown, so we are all at home, I guess it’s better to be safe than sorry but will be very surprised if It’s a positive. We will be careful but apart from not going into school we won’t self isolate particular, well I will but I’ll send dh to go shopping etc, hope it doesn’t take 5 days though. Tempted not to do the app again though

Keep doing the app just don't tell everyone you've been tested if it's just a research test.

I've done 2 tests as requested by the Zoe app, but I've also not tested a few times when they've invited me to. It's just an invitation, you don't have to do it.

Mumisnotmyonlyname · 13/10/2020 16:10

Do the test.

Incidentally the idea that Zoe should be shit down is very comical, and certainly idiotic.

Aragog · 13/10/2020 16:29

Your work is wrong in this situation.

The email says this too iirr. I didn't even tell work when Zoe asked me to do one.

You are doing the test for their research and NOT because they believe you have covid.

You do not need to SI and neither do your household or close contacts.
