Another waiting on results rant - anyone want to join?

Waiting on covd swab results for 2 yo DS - took him to local drive thru centre on Sunday morning and no results yet. 119 won't escalate till 72 hours. We're trying to sell our house and have had to cancel viewings on our house and other houses we wanted to view. Also various other important things happening this week that are looking unlikely now. DS is of course fresh as a daisy now but (rightly) nursery won't have him back until they've seen a negative test result.

He only had a bit of a temp over the weekend and it feels like we're being punished for doing the right thing. Had similar about a month ago and the test results got lost so not feeling very positive Sad I know it's totally first world problems and were lucky to all be healthy but just wanted to rant a bit.

My mum got a positive result today but had to call 119 after 72 hours. They told her 24-48 hours. You may have to call tomorrow.

ShivD · 13/10/2020 19:12

Totally with you although we’ve been waiting less time than you. My 5 year old started with a cough on Sunday night. I’ve had to cancel an appointment with a paediatrician for my daughter today because we’ve not had results which is really annoying as she really needs some specialist input for allergy related problems.

To rub salt in the wounds, my DS texted his friend, who was sent home from school last week with a persistent cough, to ask how long his results took and they didn’t bloody bother.

It seems like people are split into two groups surrounding testing, lots wouldn’t have bothered to test.

Bickles · 13/10/2020 19:13

Yes. DS and I both tested on Saturday. Spoken to 119 twice today. Mine came at 3pm- negative. Still no sign of DS results and really want him back to school - he’s really well now and his cough has gone pretty much.
Feeling really helpless and fed up.

Lovetoridemybicycle · 13/10/2020 19:22

Took my DD at 1pm Sunday, still waiting. Good to know you can chase at 72 hours. I know what I'm doing at 1pm tomorrow then! We worked out that with school and club bubbles that's potentially 30 people wandering around who are probably okay but might not be. No wonder the rate is going up.

Bayleaf25 · 13/10/2020 19:37

Mine was exactly 72 hours. Negative luckily.

Bickles · 13/10/2020 20:27

DS came in just now at 75 hours- also negative. Good luck all

TotheletterofthelawTHELETTER · 13/10/2020 20:35

The difference between areas is random.
I had a test at 2pm on Monday and got my result at 9.30am today.

albazavi · 13/10/2020 20:39

Can i come and join? All 3 ds had colds. Youngest ds had a temp on sunday afternoon. Managed to get a test for 10 minutes after i looked. Naively thought this would mean results would come in quickly. I was the only one at the giant city test centre.

50 hours later... still waiting.

YouAndMeAndTheDevilMakesThree · 13/10/2020 21:42

Thanks for the replies folks. Result (negative) came through this evening, 56 hours I think?. Annoyingly i had already cancelled a handyman for tomorrow who is now doing another job. Could have been a lot worse though! Test centre was deserted when we went so foolishly I thought that'd mean a quicker result.

Glad you've got your results back and they are negative. We still have nothing (60 hours). Phoned this morning and despite their own recorded message saying they will escalate after 48 hours, they said they won't do anything until 5 days has passed!!

Bickles · 14/10/2020 09:40

I spoke to them yesterday and they checked that the barcodes had the right contact details attached and then sent an email to the lab. We were at 60 hours at that point.
Good luck

Lovetoridemybicycle · 14/10/2020 09:46

Just off the phone, like @bickles they checked all the registration details but then said they don't email the labs now until 5 days, so 120 hours.
They also told us factually incorrect information that even if her result comes back negative that the rest of the household still have to isolate the 14 days.

Worldbeatingshitshow · 14/10/2020 09:50

Ds was on school transport last Wednesday close to someone who developed symptoms later that day. They still don't have their test results back yet.

QuentinWinters · 14/10/2020 09:56

Its so flipping annoying isn't it. Ive just been isolating for 3 days, feeling like crap with kids + dog to deal with. Knew it probably wasn't corona but had a temp so followed the rules.
Tbh I think people writing off mild symptoms as "just a cold" and not bothering to go through the self isolation palaver is much more likely to be driving the spread than not wearing masks/poor social distancing.
Its a joke. Cough and/or temperature means most people will need to be off multiple times over winter and i just don't think people can cope with the disruption.

ItsBeyondMe · 14/10/2020 09:57

I’m waiting for a result for me. Only been 24hrs so far though. Looking at this thread depresses me. I was hoping to have the kids back at school tomorrow and be back at dance class!

ShivD · 14/10/2020 12:32

@QuentinWinters totally agree, I can’t face another 6 months of this shite. I’ve just had to banish my 4 boys to the garden to let off some steam. They’ll be behind in their school work already (missed 3 days so far). We’re lucky than H can WFH and I’m on mat leave so not missing work or income but this isn’t realistic for most people. I really think at least 50% of people wouldn’t bother to test/ isolate given the disruption to income/ education/ childcare etc.

Lovetoridemybicycle · 14/10/2020 13:01

72 hours on the dot. Result came in negative

IloveJKRowling · 14/10/2020 13:07

This. Until we have a fast testing system with fast results, people just won't be able to afford to test, they'll minimise symptoms, and the pandemic will grow.

How much of our taxpayers money has gone to Serco for this piece of shit? I've written to my MP, much good it will do.

www.opendemocracy.net/en/opendemocracyuk/serco-lands-another-45m-for-failing-covid-test-and-trace-scheme/

"Serco’s separate £108m COVID contact tracing contract – the value of which could rise to £432m if it continues through to next year – allows Serco to “refine” its own service level agreements, oversee its own monitoring, and also rules out automatic penalties for underperformance."

albazavi · 14/10/2020 14:16

@shivD I'm in the same boat. Dh is wfh and I'm on mat leave. So £'m not losing out on money- but god help us when i go bsck to work in january. Trying to get ds1 settled into reception- he's a shy little thing and missdd so mucb of nursery because of lots of time in hospital. Doesn't help him being off 3 days every couple of week.

65 hours and negative result. We've decided to adopt a wait and see approach next time. Keep them off if they've got symptoms and see what happens before testing. I know it's not the rules but we've do e this 3 times since september already!

Yes this exactly 50 hours now and both dc missing school and me work (keyworker).

Baaaahhhhh · 14/10/2020 14:26

De-railing thread completely - DH still waiting for suspect mole biopsy results, 8 weeks down, still no result. It was marked "urgent" 2 weeks. Our local pathology lab is in meltdown, and that knocks on to all other tests as well.

Flatwhite32 · 14/10/2020 15:04

Nearly 48 hours here for DD (age 2) and haven't heard anything yet. From reading this thread, that appears to be normal! I'm a teacher so it isn't ideal being off work! DD is absolutely fine now after a fever for a couple of days. Hopefully at her age it'll very likely by negative.
