Get toddler tested? Temperature but not a fever

Not sure is he needs a test. He has a cold and I have one too, DH unaffected. Cold has lasted a week so far and DS has now developed a slightly high temperature which is bought down by calpol. 36.7 usually and after calpol but between 37.5 and 37.9 without. This as far as I can see, is just about not a fever. Off his food etc but no cough.

Really don't want to put him through a test if not necessary.

37.8⁰C is the temperature that would trigger a test

@dementedpixie where did you get that info from? I've struggled to find something definitive. He is 17months and never had a temp before. Would it be wrong to just self isolate and not get a test?

It was 37.8 that was the cut off in the early days, but now the guidance is if you "feel hot" (as in, their forehead feels much hotter than usual) you should be tested. With a temp of 37.9 I would test.

I'm in Scotland and our nhs site says it:

Yes ok, think it's a must then. Argh.

Afraid so. Hope he is ok and gets a negative soon.

My toddler had a very high temp a few weeks ago and off food etc - negative result.

We are currently covid positive and only a mild temp this time for toddler, but the marked difference is that covid hasn't affected appetite.

I'd get a test anyway (just swipe both nostrils, it works) but I think you're okay!
