Could the country not just go alcohol free in pubs and restaurants / general for a few months?
Wouldn’t that be a better way for the economy to keep going than shutting pubs.
🤔

I’d be happy with a ban on it until things settle bit di appreciate it pays tax. It’s quite sad how many can’t seem t go without or are unable to enjoy experiences without it.

It is pointless to apply it to restaurants. It will have no impact on how people behave. It doesn't matter how much people have to drink they still sit at their table, talk to people they came with and get up only to go to the toilet.

For pubs, I think it is more about correlation than causation. How many people who want to go to a pub and get so wasted they hug strangers really cared about social distancing in the first place? If pubs stopped serving alcohol, people like that wouldn't go but neither would a lot of other people.

Pubs and restaurants are supposed to insist on social distancing, groups of 6 or fewer and taking details for track and trace.

In summer, when pubs were closed, people were drinking into the night in our local open space. It was out of doors but they were in huge groups, close together, hugging and heads together over mobile phone screens. But it's too cold to do that outside. Now if we close pubs, we leave everyone to drink and socialise at home. No controls at all.
