I'm presuming not? My ds a student at the Uni and not coping. He wants to come home and work remotely from our home in England.

I've said he can't, but I'm so confused about what you can and can't do Sad

Apologies, I meant to change the title. The OP is what I need to know!

He says his mates went to Nottingham for the weekend Hmm so obviously people are leaving.

If he’s not coping you need to go and get him. Mental health is real, and student suicide rates high. I wouldn’t hesitate.

The university may have a restriction on how far away from the university a student is allowed to study from. But unless it is for his mental health he should not be leaving Swansea borough council area for a weekend break then returning as Swansea is in lockdown.

If he's not coping, I assume collecting him would fall under providing care to a vulnerable person, which is allowed.

tempnamechange98765 · 07/10/2020 19:35

Absolutely, if he's not coping then go and get your son.

Thanks I'm so sad for students, and parents of students this year.

Yramrevilo · 07/10/2020 19:35

Thank you. Just to complicate matters he's just texted to say he's feeling breathless and went with a friend to have a drive in cv test Sad he says he's pretty sure its anxiety but he wants to be sure Sad

I think he wants to come home for a few weeks.

We are in lockdown here in Swansea but we can still leave for certain reasons. Health being one which this would definitely be. Honestly, go get him. I am not aware of anyone either stopped here anyway, it must be so isolating for him.

Arofan · 07/10/2020 19:38

So sorry to hear your ds is struggling. Hope you can get to him soon.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 07/10/2020 19:38

The rules are quite easy to google. As long as he isn’t coming and going I think leaving once follows the rules, he has a ‘reasonable excuse’ - he’s mentally suffering and has a home to go to.

Yramrevilo · 07/10/2020 19:38

Will I be stopped driving into Swansea or leaving?

Go and get him. He can isolate at home if needed.

Mental health is crucial.

Yramrevilo · 07/10/2020 19:40

The rules are quite easy to google are they? I couldn't find anything specific

Girlwhowearsglasses · 07/10/2020 19:45

God i'd get him. Just go. All this is horrific. He can isolate at your house

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 07/10/2020 19:46

Swansea.gov.uk, it details what can and can’t be done.

Yramrevilo · 07/10/2020 19:55

Thank you so much.

He's a really sociable lad, in his second year, so not even a fresher. He's a college rep and did well in his exams. But he's been up and down since he got back and now he just sounds broken Sad its awful

You won't be stopped, I have been to Swansea today for medical reasons and there are plenty of people coming and going on the motorway.

When does your son get the cv test results? Maybe wait for them and then fetch him if negative.

This is what I am thinking. He might feel better if he's negative and want to stay. If he's positive though I'm notsure how he will take it

Well what would Boris do eh?
It's his mental health; he's moving home to support his health. Bring him home.

Cherry321 · 07/10/2020 20:10

You won’t be stopped and if you are, people are allowed to travel for ‘compassionate reasons’.
