France travel question

I've searched for the answer to this question online but come away even more confused! Hoping someone on here will know the answer....
The FCDO have now restricted all unnecessary travel to France in light of their rising virus cases. We were planning on booking a trip to France in August 2021 (with effective cancellation policy and insurance) in the hope that by then we would be able to travel to a self catering gite. However we hadn't got around to booking it before the gov started advising against travelling there. Obviously in reality one would hope that Are we currently able to book a holiday in France for 2021, or does the current gov restriction invalidate any insurance or cancellation claim? What about if a package holiday company is currently listing France holidays for 2021?

Ask your insurance company.

Yep, read the small print of your insurance documents... or ask them directly.

I have a holiday booked for 2021 and I am covered for covid-19, they did make this clear from the outset.

I think FO restrictions still in place at the time of travel you won’t be insured (there are a couple of niche insurers who would provide some cover I think)

Most travel insurance now excludes Covid (unless you have an existing policy from pre Covid) and remember we’ll be out of EU next year so your E whatever it’s called card for reciprocal nhs cover won’t work.
