Coronovirus testing during hospital admission

Could anyone advise please. If someone has been admitted to hospital with a query chest infection and has a Covid test on admission but awaiting results, would family members living with the patient have to self isolate until they knew the outcome of the test or could they just go about their normal day?

Go about your day. If they dont have symptoms then they wouldnt be having a test under other circumstances. Its just a protocol for going in to hospital, they dont expect them to have it.

If they test positive then you isolate of course.

I'm assuming as they think chest infection they have a cough?
If they have any of the main 3 symptoms you have to isolate for 14 days or until a negative test

Greysparkles it's my DF who's been admitted. He was feeling week and his legs "had gone". Over the phone I asked my DM if he had any other symptoms because the ambulance would be taking a while to get to him and she said no. When the paramedics turned up he had a temperature and concerned he could have pneumonia (never had any problems respiratory wise before) and took him to hospital. He's on antibiotics and waiting for a Covid test. My sister, a bit of a Covid non believer doesn't think our DM needs to isolate until we know the outcome of the Covid test. I'm a GP Receptionist and we ask people before they come into the surgery have they been in contact with anyone with coronovirus of anyone awaiting a coronovirus test result so I'm a bit confused now.

If he had a temp then he did have one of the symptoms of COVID so yes your mum should isolate. Hope your dad gets well soon Thanks

dalmationsandcats thank you. He's been discharged so the test was negative and he didn't have a chest infection either but I still think my DM was silly and regarding my sister I have no words. Well I do but it's no place to voice them here Smile.
