Am confused about whether Track and Trace are involved with isolating children from schools, or if schools just do this themselves

Loads of children at our school have been sent home to isolate, but the communication is all coming from school; there has been no direct contact with Track and Trace or any other formal body.

Is this how it has been done for any of your school/bubble closures? Or have Track and Trace formally told your children to isolate?

It just seems odd when all the PHE guidance says that you don't have to isolate unless so instructed by Track and Trace.

I know that phe make the decision about who isolates in schools

As far as I know, it has nothing to do with Track and Trace.

Heads contact PHE/DfE In the event of a positive case and are advised what to do.

I'm in Scotland and we get letters emails from the school that have come from NHS Test and Protect. It says they are carrying out contact tracing within the school. Luckily neither of my kids have been affected yet

We’ve just had letters from school, nothing from test and trace

Freddiefox · 06/10/2020 21:51

Track and trace aren’t going to b ringing all the school children m, so one call is made to phe would decide what next as the school pass on the message.

I've had no contact from test and trace despite 2 close contacts for me and now one for DD. I've isolated off my own bat and shes now isolating on advice of the school, but nothing from test and trace. I have the app and have been checking in etc - both my contacts updated the app. I think its a load of shit personally

Dc has had to isolate from school. The letter came from the school who had been notified by Public Health England. They’d just gone back because they were isolating from another contact that track & trace had been in touch with.

Just out of interest it says to isolate till Thursday 15th. Does that include the Thursday or is it up to the Wednesday? Will isolate till the Thursday anyway but was just wondering as I’m feel a bit fed up with it all. Upper sixth & so much education missed.

Other dc at uni & has just developed symptoms so just waiting for their test results. Dh has had it but I’ve managed to avoid so far 🤞

We report to track and trace, I did one yesterday after a member of staff tested positive. (FWIW, caught from his young adult daughter, not in school). Guidance is to report either to DfE hotline or local track and trace and follow their advice re isolating individuals or bubbles.

However, on the initial call yesterday we spoke to someone with limited English and had to wait several hours for a call back from someone who could actually help. Meantime decisions need to me made....

Track and Trace is just a call centre. It's not like there was a huge body of experts just standing by ready for this.

FGS Test and Trace....sorry
