If you test positive, how long are you infectious for?

I can't see a clear answer online.
I know how long to self isolate for, but I can't see how long you can be infectious for.

I don’t know, but I stayed at home for 28 days because I still felt unwell and figured if I felt unwell I may be contagious. However when I asked my doctor he said it wasn’t related and you could be very unwell whilst not being contagious. Not sure what the current advice is for people unwell after the mandatory 2 weeks. Perhaps try 111.

The current broad scientific view is that you're infectious for the two days before symptoms appear and up to ten days after, hence ten days isolation.

DD's test result email said that she had to self isolate for 10 days after her symptoms first started and that she could return to work on the 11th day if she felt well and had not had a high temperature for 48hrs.

However the app said 10 days from when the test was done. So conflicting advice from the NHS.

There is no definitive answer.

It's one of those things that will massively vary from person to person. There are probably people that continue shedding infectious virus for months. The ten day period from start of symptoms would cover the infectious period for the vast majority though.

I would say even when out of official isolation be aware and keep up hygienic behaviour.

I think it is for as long as you have symptoms. That is what I was advised by the NHS.

Ten days, but stay in isolation after that if you still have a temperature?

It isn't very clear to me tbh.
