has track and trace contacted anyone after being in a restaurant?

If so, how? You check in but how does it know who you sat next to, or were served by?

I ask because a local restaurant has closed following positive cases among the staff, but they have been told to leave all contact tracing to track and trace (although they wanted to contact customers themselves).

I can’t see how it “knows” where you are sittting?

Will the restaurant not have details of who sat where and what time they were booked in at? And its test and trace

GreyishDays · 05/10/2020 16:43

I think they contact everyone in the restaurant.

nevernotstruggling · 05/10/2020 16:44

I've had track and trace and used it everywhere we have been. We have not been contacted

WearyandBleary · 05/10/2020 16:46

@dementedpixie when I’ve been with someone with the app, they’ve just clocked in on entry to the restaurant. I can’t see how the restaurant would therefore be able to say where they sat? They wouldn’t have their details.

Our table number has been taken, so they would know where we were sat.

dementedpixie · 05/10/2020 16:55

In scotland we have to book in advance so they would know what table we were sitting at and what time we got there

TheSandman · 05/10/2020 17:00

Wish I could find it but a few days ago there were newspaper reports about a couple who did a runner from a restaurant in Edinburgh without paying....after helpfully leaving their contact details with the owners before they sat down to eat the meal they weren't going to pay for.

Not the brightest of moves. They were contacted.

LiveFromHome · 05/10/2020 17:09

When businesses downloaded their QR code, they were asked absolutely zero questions about their business, the size of their venue, average length of stay for each customer, the test and trace app has no understanding of how or even if you came into contact with other customers or staff.

If the restaurant have been told to leave it to test and trace, then presumably anyone that was in the restaurant within the relevant timeframe will be contacted whether you were within 100 metres of the member of staff or not.

It's a dreadful system.

That’s not true. All they have to do is take your details, not book in advance. I’ve walked in to restaurants without bookings in Scotland

dementedpixie · 05/10/2020 17:46

Most of the restaurants I've been to in Scotland do make you book in advance (except nandos!). Although we don't have to check in with qr codes so they hopefully have your details plus the time you got there on record

BashfulClam · 05/10/2020 19:08

@dementedpixie I ate out twice at the weekend in Scotland with no booking. Last week went to a restaurant in Glasgow, no booking. They record time/date and table number.

dementedpixie · 05/10/2020 19:11

Well as long as they have your details recorded with table number and time of meal then they will hopefully have sufficient info to determine close contacts if there is a case of covid

Frappuccinofan · 05/10/2020 19:14

The nhs qr code definitely doesn’t take table numbers. All you do is scan the code at the entrance/tills.

ProfessorInkling · 05/10/2020 19:18

That’s the point, they’ve no idea when you left or where you sat or anything else. Only the time you registered as being there.

World class, that Hmm

MoonPomme · 05/10/2020 19:24

I work in a restaurant.
No idea how its supposed to work but I doubt anyone will ever be contacted.
One of my colleagues had the virus, no customers were contacted beacause staff are wearing visors which is mitigation.
Customers have mitigation measures between each table so won't be counted as close contacts.
The only thing it might be good for is if lots of people who test positive say they came to our restaurant so that an outbreak can be spotted.

BashfulClam · 05/10/2020 19:51

@ProfessorInkling the QR code we scanned asked us to confirm which table number we were (it was written below the code) when we paid we were given a receipt so that will record what time the table was closed at.
