Can my employer make me take a test on my day off?

Nc as I have colleagues on here.
Firstly, I have no symptoms, I feel fit and well.
My employer emailed me to say I must attend work on my day off and have a Covid-19 test and that this is mandatory.
I thought that we were being advised that if no symptoms, don't have a test and that tests were in short supply anyway.
I work in a social care setting.
Can they insist on this?

I work in healthcare. It’s due to the way the courier needs to be booked to collect everyone’s weekly tests...it’s always going to fall on someone’s day off. I ask if I can take mine home and do it the morning of the courier collection and drop it off at work or a colleague will stop by on their way to work and collect it from me.

I know it’s annoying/inconvenient but I think we need to try and comply as much as possible and make things easier all round.

Also if it’s a care home or if you are a community carer then you DO have to test weekly regardless of if you are displaying symptoms or not.
