Just wondering if anyone else has had anything similar i wasnt sure where to post. Basically 3wks ago smell and taste just went and still not back now. No other symptons at all. Did a postal test however had to do it on day 6 due to weekend and lateness of test being sent out. Result came back negative. Has anyone had this and the test result was wrong. Ive just never had anything like it before.

The false negative rate is about 30% plus false negatives are more likely the later you do the test. Can you still taste sweet, sour and salty or is it gone completely?

Thankyou for replying the 1st 2 weeks absolutely nothing. The last week i can tell if something is really sweet but cant taste its the weirdest thing and cant smell at all. As a family we self isolated for 14 days just incase. But my dh and 3 children have all just had a slight cold nothing else. Ive not had sinus problems, cold symptons absolutely nothing. Which is why i was wondering whether the test could have been wrong.

Sounds like Covid and the negative wrong, but no way of knowing for sure.

Yeah, sounds like covid to me too.

Well if it is ive got away with it very lightly. Although it is getting abit frustrating the whole not smelling and tasting. Its a shame i cant find out for certain.

There are Facebook groups for this I think - maybe have a look on there and see if you can find others experiences. (AabScent?

It does sound like covid and you probably tested too late. Anyway you did the right thing by isolating and it sounds like you are slowly getting your taste back if you can now identify sweet, so hopefully your senses will return to normal soon.
