How do they confirm Covid if you aren't tested within the "time frame" but later admitted to hospital?

I seem to remember back in March them saying xrays of covid affected lungs are unique and they can get a diagnosis from that

You can see it on chest x-rays and MRIs as far as I understand. Something in the lungs is visible, although that's just from knowing medical professionals!

I was told the tests are positive for weeks after someone stopped being infectious .
