Schizophrenia conspiracy theories reassure me?

Theodoreb · 24/09/2020 17:51

I have schizophrenia and all my schizophrenic friends are going overboard with the conspiracy theories. Me I'm taking my medication trying to stay calm but I'm constantly bombarded with conspiracy theories that this covid is from a illusion created to control us to they are using a real issue to control us.

Now I've come to a place I've name changed for many years but always trusted to be intelligent level headed thinkers to ask for reassurance?

my advice would be to step away from anyone you hear them from, delete social media if you have to.

The conspirecy theorys aren't true. But it must be hard for you.

WinWinnieTheWay · 24/09/2020 18:05

You have to save yourself here, maybe give yourself some space from people who might bring you down with their paranoia? I know how hard it is once an idea takes root, your priority and duty of to yourself.

lljkk · 24/09/2020 18:14

Your illness will always tell you to get off your meds. Very creatively, too. View the stories as highly inventive fiction, OP.

Kanaloa · 24/09/2020 18:15

Is there anyone you can speak to who isn’t involved with conspiracy theories? Sometimes getting a fresh, different viewpoint makes a big difference. Are you able to let your friends know that this conspiracy theory talk is making you really uncomfortable and ask to talk about something else?

Crinklyoldhag · 24/09/2020 18:18

There is no conspiracy regarding the virus. It would require far too many people globally to be complicit. I know how convincing these people can be but may i suggest staying away from people trying to convince you of something you know is rubbish when we’ll. You seem stable right now, perhaps avoid friends who are experiencing paranoia and delusions for the time being? Your health comes first!

MushMonster · 24/09/2020 18:23

This is a hard one! Do you have other social circles where you can evade these friends for a while? You do need some peace and quiet, and influence from others who do not follow this conspiracy thing. You do need to prioritise your health and keep doing what you are doing with the meds and keeping calm.

Theodoreb · 24/09/2020 18:32

Yes I have friends who are normal (for want of a better word) I have been speaking to them more but every now and then morbid curiosity causes me to click on something a schizophrenic friend has sent me and then I'm feeling bad. I am not listening and I am going to continue my medication I am determined too. I keep telling myself that there is no conspiracy's tots just that right now things have gone to hell and this prays on my equals insecurities and we are finding it hard. I focus on my dc which is why I've gotten so far and continue to take my medication every single day and as long as I take that I will be ok.

What can be gained by anyone from the world population 'being controlled'?

Who is meant to be controlling the controlled?

IF I was to have a vaccine with a tracker in it, what would be the benefit of it to the controllers?

OP, I presume you aren't psychotic all the time and, clearly, you haven't lost all insight. What does your head say to you when you aren't suffering with your MH?

CrunchyCarrot · 24/09/2020 19:29

I'm afraid there's a lot of it about, OP. People who should know better, but they've been sucked in and vanished down the conspiracy rabbit hole. I am partly angry and partly upset about it personally, but we won't change them and it's just upsetting. My advice FWIW is to minimise contact with those people, they're not going to do you any good. You've got to put yourself first.

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 24/09/2020 19:33

Boris isn't organised enough to part of a worldwide conspiracy OP, he can't 'remember' how many dc he has Grin

Honestly, step away from those who are putting these theories your way, I appreciate they may offer support in other ways but at the moment it won't help your health to be around them.

Theodoreb · 24/09/2020 19:36

@Itsabeautifuldayheyhey it says that the whole world cannot be acting and that we have gotten through plagues much worse and with less technology and that there is nothing to be gained from the economic crash we are experiencing.

@CrunchyCarrot I am trying My very best to but myself first and ignore them it's just upsetting and frightening when I watch one after another fall to this conspiracy theory one after another.

No, 'we' didn't. The millions of people who died of the Black Death didn't. Somewhere between 25 and 50 million people are believed to have died of it in just a five year period. The societal changes that arose as a direct result of the huge numbers of deaths demonstrate just how devastating a disease can be when there is no technology or effective medicine to treat, avoid or prevent it.

It's their illness talking. It's a shame, but you do have to protect yourself and avoid them.

Lovemusic33 · 24/09/2020 20:34

Please step away from reading all the rubbish on social media. I’m sure there are even people on here who believe in the conspiracy theories too because social media is pushing it into people’s faces.

BabyLlamaZen · 24/09/2020 20:37

Please op you need to look after your mental health. It sounds like your schizophrenic friends are getting sick again!

Theodoreb · 24/09/2020 20:42

@BabyLlamaZen they certainly are getting sick and I can see it one at a time and I'm frightened I'm going to be next. I feel it's only my strength and my ties to the real world that's keeping me holding on.

I am avoiding them it's just hard when they are usually my main source of comfort but that's why I have asked here as I know there are level headed intelligent people who do not suffer paranoia which holds my people in pain so I ask here where disease is not rampant.

It is upsetting, I can relate. I've had to cut contact with a couple of people because of it. I thought better of them! Just hang in there, at least on this forum you'll find people who don't believe any of that harmful garbage.
